'Bloodsicles', baths keep Philippine zoo animals cool as heatwave hits

A Philippine zoo is giving tigers frozen treats made of animal blood and preventing lions from mating during the hottest time of the day as a heatwave scorches the country.

00:18 Once in a while, at least three times a day, we wet the whole enclosure.

00:23 And by doing that, we, at least in our own way, we can lessen the temperature inside the exhibit areas.

00:33 And apart from that, we give them their enrichments, their refreshments, the bloodsicles,

00:41 which is made out of blood, water, vitamins, and the meat of choice that they actually like.

00:55 During this heat, they can't have that comfortable temperature to sleep,

01:00 so they're just playing with ice or they're just panting the whole time.

01:05 So, yeah, I think that's so far the worst that we can see in the zoo.

01:10 They're not aggressive, they're not aggravated.

01:13 So, Diego is in lock-up to prevent them from eating.
