Cadent expain what will happen as they roll out £80m upgrade plan to North West's gas mains

00:00Hello, we're Cadent. We own, operate and maintain the largest gas distribution network in the UK,
00:07providing our customers with the energy they need to stay safe, warm and connected.
00:13Cadent looks after the pipes that bring gas to your home or business.
00:17This includes replacing old pipes that have been in the ground for decades
00:21so they continue to supply your gas safely and efficiently long into the future.
00:26We normally do this work in two stages.
00:29The first stage is to replace the pipes that feed individual properties from the main gas pipe running in the street.
00:35To do this, we often need to excavate in private property
00:39and we will need to interrupt your supply, normally for a few hours.
00:43The second stage is to dig holes to get to the main gas pipe running along your street so we can replace that too.
00:49During this stage, we will again need to turn the gas off to the row of properties impacted
00:54before getting supplies restored again.
00:56We try hard to minimise the time your gas is off and the impact we have on our customers and the community.
01:02Our team will be on site to talk about what you should expect during the work
01:06and any concerns or particular needs you or a neighbour might have.
01:10All our teams carry ID cards, so please check them before allowing anyone inside.
01:16Once the pipeline teams have done their job,
01:18our gas fitters go to every property to test appliances and safely turn on the gas.
01:23We will work into the evening to reconnect your home or business.
01:27Lastly, and within five working days of turning your gas back on,
01:31another specialist team will arrive to fill in any holes in the ground
01:35and ensure we've cleaned up after ourselves.
