00:07Watcher Entertainment is a group of three main personalities, Stephen Lim, Ryan Bergara,
00:13and Shane Madej.
00:14The group started their channel in 2020 after leaving BuzzFeed to focus on their own entertainment
00:19and media company.
00:20Since its creation, the group's channel has amassed over 2 million subscribers, but
00:25a recent announcement the Watcher team made resulted in waves of backlash.
00:30On April 19th, the group posted a video stating that they would be leaving YouTube, and that
00:35fans could pay $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year to have access to their future content.
00:42Watcher faced immediate backlash over the announcement, mainly over comments that the
00:45price of the subscription was set at something, quote, everyone could afford.
00:50After losing thousands of subscribers and facing an online uproar, the Watcher team
00:54apologized in a new video, and shared that they will continue uploading their content
00:59on YouTube just a month after it goes live first on their streaming platform.
