A Leeds woman dubbed 'ugly' by cruel bullies at school has landed a job - as a model.  Laura Shaw, 24, was taunted throughout her school years for her looks and learning disability by nasty classmates who called her "thick" and "ugly".   But comments only fuelled Laura to pursue a career in modelling and she’s now featured on billboards and at fashion shows.  Video: SWNS

00:00 This is my first ever billboard that I've been on, which I am so shocked, I am so proud

00:06 and I'm thankful for my manager for doing this for me and this is me on the billboard.

00:10 Hi my name is Laura Shaw and I used to get bullied and now I am a model.

00:16 Right now I'm a freelance model, I don't get paid. I want it to be my full-time job.

00:27 In high school, in primary school, I used to get bullied a lot. I had like the bad times and good

00:33 times. Like I had like good friends in high school, they used to support me and all and

00:37 other things like that but I had like some nasty people bullying me, like because of my learning

00:43 difficulties, call me ugly and then even teachers saying that I won't get far in life.

00:52 This is where I do my modelling as well. I do, I do modelling down London but I'm also doing my

00:57 modelling up here as well in different places and I've been on billboards up here two times

01:03 and if it wasn't for my manager I wouldn't be where I am now. And this is my second billboard

01:09 I've been on for my manager's fashion show which she's got another fashion show company,

01:16 it's called Yorkshire Fashion Week. It felt amazing, like I felt really good inside and

01:28 I felt so proud of myself and I thought I never, I never thought I'd never do,

01:33 be on the billboards which I, it was my goal to be on the billboards. I loved, I loved everything

01:40 about modelling, like the clothes, the catwalking and everything and I just feel like it's the right

01:46 thing for me to do. I want to inspire people as well with my learning difficulties, like you can,

01:51 you can do it no matter what disability you have. You can be whoever you want,

01:56 no matter what disability, no matter what you look like, you can, you can do whatever you want in life.
