Shortage of skilled tradespeople leads to DIY boom for home improvements
  • 17 days ago
Have you struggled to book a tradesperson for home improvement jobs around your home? A new report has revealed the extent of the trade skills gap, with many left unable to engage the relevant tradies for the job.

Whilst Brits are embracing home improvements with four in five tradespeople being booked up in advance, two in three people say it's getting more difficult to find tradespeople for home DIY projects. It means many more of us are turning to doing it ourselves in a bid to get things done quickly and cheaply - and not just those traditionally more inclined towards the tasks.

Eighty two percent of Gen Z women are inspired by other women doing complex DIY on social media to do more themselves. 'A Slice of Home Life twenty twenty four' is a new report looking at DIY trends this year conducted by B and Q. It found that more women are joining men in undertaking heavier DIY tasks, with women now being just as likely as men to have used a nail gun and a floor sander and over nine in ten women have made their own home improvements in the last year, with one in four of these down to not being able to find the right tradesperson for the task at hand.
