00:00 Thank you for joining us and joining us again for Risa Sombodatu.
00:04 And this time in CREATE UP, we will discuss an interesting topic, which is the goal of AI Consultant Startup.
00:11 It is connected through a video conference with Richard Ho, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Salt.ai.
00:17 How are you, Richard?
00:19 I'm fine, thank God and thank you for having me here.
00:23 Thank you for joining us. If you can share with us, Salt.ai, what is your company's field and what are its services?
00:35 Saltx.ai is a company that operates in the field of consulting services for the implementation of AI technology.
00:41 Our focus is on how to help enterprises to be able to adopt AI technology.
00:48 And we divide our services into two. One is about the vision and strategy.
00:53 So, how can we make AI, sorry, we know what the company needs, what business solution is suitable for them in AI.
01:03 The second is the implementation of AI itself. So, the implementation of the technology for us to be able to implement AI in the company.
01:10 Okay, Mas. Speaking of AI, the booming can also be said to be just a few years ago.
01:16 You have been able to set up your own AI consultation startup. How come? Can you explain a little?
01:23 Maybe if we talk a little bit about the background, at Salt.ai, we started in 2013.
01:29 Our focus was indeed on technology and digital transformation at that time.
01:33 In 2020, we have a new unit because at that time, the focus was on data and we started to enter the chatbot area.
01:43 In 2023, when AI booming, our adoption to talk about AI became faster.
01:47 Because we already have the backbone at that time to talk about data, chatbot, technology.
01:53 So, we already have a team.
01:55 Okay, it means that if there is a company that wants to apply AI for the company's operations or increase services to its customers,
02:05 the consultation is with your company.
02:09 If you look at the AI technology supply for the corporate market in Indonesia, how far do you think it is?
02:14 So, this makes you add services, one of them is AI consultation.
02:21 Yes, if we talk about AI technology supply in Indonesia since 2023, the development is very significant.
02:26 Many sectors that have applied AI to help their productivity, for example, starting from customer service.
02:33 We are talking about customer service, AI, SDM management, cyber security, even now the education sector has started to apply AI.
02:43 And maybe a little more information from me is, good news for Indonesia, there is a report from the Cooperation Organization and Economic Development.
02:50 Where in 2023, Indonesia recorded the largest investment in Southeast Asia.
02:57 Even if we compare it with developed countries like Singapore, Indonesia is the largest.
03:02 And also for the research area about AI, Indonesia is already number one in terms of scientific publication from its own academic.
03:08 So, if we look at the supply of AI technology, it is very significant.
03:12 Okay, so, what are the value for companies when using AI in their company's operations so far?
03:21 If we talk about value, we usually divide it into three.
03:26 We like to say A3, so there is automation, the first A is automation.
03:32 So how can AI give value to automate their tasks?
03:36 So repetitive tasks, time consuming tasks can be helped by AI.
03:40 So that the employees or people in the company can focus on what needs creativity and also accelerate decision-making.
03:48 That's the first A, the first value is automation.
03:52 The second A is availability. AI is available 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
03:58 And also, AI never stops in terms of operation.
04:02 And AI never takes a break.
04:05 So, the third A is availability.
04:07 The last one is adaptability, where AI can help the company to make product and service innovations.
04:13 So that it can increase the revenue and income for the company itself.
04:17 Okay, if we look at it, you just said that you are a consultant for clients who want to apply AI in their company's operations.
04:26 Is it just a consulting or you also provide the technology?
04:29 So, for the technology, we are currently a partnership with, which is top tier of AI technology provider.
04:41 But we also have our own platform, which is a no-code platform to help the company to implement AI faster.
04:48 Okay, so, which sector do you have more clients?
04:53 And then, to make a profit, what is the strategy?
04:58 We will discuss it in the last segment. Let's start with Dato first.
05:02 We are still discussing with Richard about .AI.
05:06 SaltX.AI or Salt.AI?
05:10 SaltX.AI.
05:11 Okay, there is an X.
05:13 Okay, so far, which sector of companies are becoming clients of SaltX.AI?
05:22 If we talk about clients, we are quite agnostic.
05:25 So, there are from Telco, FSI, retail, and FMCG.
05:33 FSI is...
05:35 What?
05:38 Telco, then FSI?
05:40 Financial Service Industry, which is banking, insurance.
05:44 Okay, so far, have you made a profit considering that the focus of AI is 2023?
05:50 Or when is the actual target profit?
05:53 Praise the Lord, we have made a profit.
05:56 So, since we built it, and we already have the base client,
06:02 and they are for AI adoption, they are also very open.
06:07 So, when we talk about profit, it's already passed.
06:11 Okay, you mentioned several sectors that need AI, and this becomes your client.
06:19 What services do you usually use?
06:22 Do you listen to complaints from consumers, or from the operational?
06:30 So, we start with what we call defining the problem first.
06:35 Because our focus is always on the business solution, not just the technology implementation.
06:39 So, we have a framework called ROAI.
06:44 So, how do we define the return of AI investment?
06:48 Okay, there's a specific, right?
06:51 Right.
06:53 The most important thing in running an AI consulting company, what is it, Richard?
06:58 What is the inspiration for them, which was inspired by Solvex.ai?
07:05 It's the same, maybe we learned from the beginning.
07:08 The first is the team's function, which is to understand AI,
07:12 to know what the limitations are, because AI is not something that can solve any kind of problem.
07:18 So, we also need to know what the limitations of AI are, and how to implement it.
07:25 So, we can always talk about the focus, as I said, the focus is on the business solution, not just technology.
07:30 So, we have to know what AI gives value.
07:33 So, that's why we came up with a jargon called ROAI.
07:37 And the last is, as consultants, we also have to implement AI internally.
07:42 Because we believe that if we don't have direct experience in implementing AI,
07:50 it will be difficult for us to share it with the client.
07:54 So, the case that we helped with AI internally, it will be easier for us to share it with our clients.
07:59 So far, how many clients have been served?
08:04 And what is the biggest hope?
08:08 There must be a challenge, right?
08:11 What is the biggest hope for the future?
08:13 In terms of clients, in total, there are more than 50 clients,
08:19 corporations that we serve from various sectors.
08:22 Then, if we talk about the challenges ahead,
08:25 there are two things when we talk about AI.
08:29 One is the absorption from the AI itself,
08:34 which is when we talk about secondary city, we talk about the limitations of internet access,
08:39 that's the first, and the second is about privacy data, because there are still many people who are afraid.
08:44 For AI, the data will be processed and made into something that maybe they don't know.
08:51 Okay, how to face the first challenge about the internet,
08:55 then trust in data security.
08:59 Coincidentally, we work together with technology providers that are already in the corporate,
09:05 big names like Google and Microsoft, which we are currently partners with them.
09:10 So, they also provide and guarantee that the AI used is specific for a particular company.
09:18 For example, we implement it in Telco, the AI is indeed streamlined,
09:21 and all data is guaranteed to be used by that particular company.
09:25 That's the first thing when we talk about data privacy.
09:28 So, all companies have a guarantee that their data will not be used for other parties,
09:34 only for their own needs.
09:36 If we talk about internet adoption,
09:38 we see that now it's getting bigger,
09:41 internet adoption in cities, even in secondary cities.
09:47 So, it looks like it will be a matter of time,
09:49 and the problem will be solved by itself.
09:52 What is the target of Solvex.ai in the long run, Mr. Richard?
09:57 Our target is to help all companies,
10:01 whether in any size, whether from a large company.
10:04 If we talk about AI now, it can adopt large companies.
10:07 But we also want companies that are mid-medium size or small companies,
10:15 they can also adopt AI.
10:16 That's why we have one key, we make AI more accessible for businesses in Indonesia.
10:21 That's our target.
10:23 Mr. Richard, is it expensive to join?
10:25 No, it's not expensive.
10:27 Not expensive?
10:29 Yes, it's true.
10:31 Tens of millions, hundreds of millions?
10:33 It depends on the use case.
10:35 But if we talk about AI adoption,
10:37 we can see that it's starting to be quite affordable.
10:42 Maybe one of our products, AI, can be adopted by UKM,
10:45 which the price is cheaper than we eat instant noodles.
10:51 Is there a funding target in the near future?
10:55 Or everything has been financed independently, maybe, organically?
11:01 Actually, maybe from our group,
11:03 we are looking for companies that we want to fund.
11:07 We have a name, Red Venture.
11:10 We can fund startups that have just started in AI,
11:13 which need scalability, and we can collaborate.
11:18 Okay, this is interesting.
11:20 Hopefully, in the future, there will be companies that can develop again,
11:26 especially with the funding intended to be distributed by SaltX.ai.
11:30 Mr. Richard, thank you for joining us.
11:32 Good luck for you. See you again.
11:34 See you again.
11:37 Before we end, Mr. Mirsa, we will update you again.
