00:11 The Ministry said the decision was made in a Cabinet meeting, after taking into account

00:16 all implications of Malaysia hosting the Games.

00:20 It said a delegation from the Commonwealth Games Federation met with the Minister on

00:24 its offer to host the Games, with the Finance Minister too, also in attendance in February.

00:31 It said it was highlighted in the Cabinet meeting that the offer of £100 million would

00:37 not suffice to afford the whole cost of hosting the Games.

00:40 The Ministry also said the economic impact cannot be determined at this point of time.

00:46 They said the government will now focus on sports development and the well-being of the

00:50 people.

00:51 The Olympics Council of Malaysia has said Malaysia can host the Games without bursting

00:56 their budget if they follow the right strategy.

00:59 It said Malaysia may even explore the option of co-hosting it with Singapore and scaling

01:05 down the number of sports.

01:07 The Council's President, Tan Sri Dr Norza Zakaria, said they respected the decision

01:11 made by the Cabinet.
