Call for more biofuels to keep trucks, utes on the road

Transport Minister Catherine King speaking at Renewable Energy Week said renewable diesel and biofuels would have a role "for many years", particularly in long-haul freight.

00:00 Low carbon liquid fuels such as renewable diesel and biofuels have the advantage that

00:05 they can be used in conventional internal combustion engines to varying degrees and

00:10 as such they will play a key role for that sector.

00:13 I know that sounds like a lot of challenges but the opportunities are really clear, not

00:18 only in terms of decarbonisation but importantly in terms of jobs.

00:23 Modelling for Australia's bioenergy roadmap estimates bioenergy could potentially contribute

00:28 26,200 new additional jobs by the 2030s and over 35,300 jobs by the 2050s with at least

00:37 one in four additional jobs expected to be in our regional areas and as a regional MP

00:42 that is important to me.

00:44 I know that there is so much work to be done in this space, I know that we can't do that

00:48 without the support and collaboration with industry, I know that's why this event is

00:53 so important.
