00:06 Hi, my name's Catherine Hay. I'm the Rural Affairs Correspondent at the Scotsman.
00:11 I'm a few days into Hay's Way, which is a roughly six-month walking trip that I'm doing around Scotland.
00:20 So far, a few people have asked me why is it that I've wanted to do this, and the honest answer is I don't really know.
00:27 I got a little bit frustrated reporting on rural affairs from behind a desk in Edinburgh.
00:34 Another reason is I love walking, and it's already a known thing that Scotland is a beautiful country.
00:41 It's landscape, it's countryside, but this trip's just reminded me of that even more,
00:48 and I would just encourage anybody who's able to to get out and walk in Scotland's countryside as much as you can.
00:55 I find walking, you're going at a pace where you're allowing a bit more room, a bit more time for discovering things,
01:06 and it's certainly something I've noticed that's happening already.
01:11 With journalism, you can set out with a preconceived idea of what it is you want to report on, a story that you want to go and get,
01:20 but with walking, it's amazing what you come across that you weren't expecting or that you hadn't even thought of.
01:29 And that's certainly something I'm noticing on this walk.
01:36 If you're interested to follow this walk around Scotland, this trip, this Hay's Way, we have a section on the Scotsman website.
01:45 So, yeah, if you want, you can subscribe. I'll be posting stories that I'll be writing as I go on there,
01:54 and I also have an Instagram page called @ruralcat, with a K.
02:00 So, yeah, welcome to follow that as well. I'll be posting pictures, videos, and links to articles that I'll be writing as well.
02:07 If you want to get in touch, if you want to meet me at some point on the route, or if you want to know where I'm going,
02:14 or just curious to meet up and have a chat, then please don't hesitate to do that.
02:19 I'm very flexible with my route, so I'm happy to adapt in some areas.
02:25 You can get in touch with me through @ruralcat on my Instagram or, again, through the Scotsman.
02:30 But, yes, in the meantime, I'm going to just get on my way.
