Christopher Nolan on Sunday won the Oscar for best director for his ambitious and sweeping epic "Oppenheimer."

The British-American filmmaker bested Martin Scorsese ("Killers of the Flower Moon"), Jonathan Glazer ("The Zone of Interest"), Yorgos Lanthimos ("Poor Things") and Justine Triet ("Anatomy of a Fall") for the golden statuette.
