00:00 French President Emmanuel Macron is inaugurating Paris' Olympic Village today.
00:05 The facility has been completed ahead of schedule and can accommodate 14,000 people.
00:10 For more on this story, we can go across to France 24's Clovis Ghassali.
00:14 Standing by, Clovis, the President is at the venue right now.
00:17 What's Emmanuel Macron been doing?
00:19 Well, President Emmanuel Macron is just behind me, behind this small crowd, along with Denis
00:27 Stonguier.
00:28 They've just been handed over.
00:29 They've been given to this athlete's village, this Olympic Village.
00:33 It's a key moment, of course, for Paris 2024.
00:36 The Olympic Games are in the French capital this summer.
00:40 And you can hear maybe behind me a lot of clapping.
00:43 The French President arrived here at this site.
00:47 He met with some of the 8,000 workers involved in building this Olympic Village.
00:54 He said thank you.
00:55 He congratulated them, said thank you.
00:58 This is an adventure of a century.
01:01 It's only every once in a century that Paris or any town can get the chance of hosting
01:07 the Olympic Games.
01:09 He thanked them also for making sure that the cost was not over budget, that they managed
01:16 to stick to the original budget and also the original schedule, delivering just on time
01:23 this Olympic Village.
01:25 That's eco-friendly.
01:27 They've tried to reduce as much as possible carbon emissions.
01:31 There won't be any air conditioning in the flats for the delegations, for the athletes.
01:38 But the organizers here say, don't worry, it will be cool in the flats, thanks to the
01:43 brand new materials and the technology used for the building.
01:47 And one last piece of information.
01:49 Well, once the Olympic Games are over, these buildings will be turned into social housing
01:57 or flats for Parisians and for those who come and live here in Sarny, actually, just outside
02:02 of Paris, Sarny, one of the most deprived areas in France.
02:06 And that's a strong symbol also to have the athletes' village here.
02:09 Clovis, thank you very much for that.
02:10 Clovis Casale reporting there for us.
