00:00Sports news and in a stunning move, Morocco has been awarded the Africa Cup of Nations title
00:06by appeals judges who've overturned Senegal's victory after a chaotic final back in January.
00:13They'd left the field in protest during stoppage time and fans later tried to storm the pitch.
00:19Well, for the very latest, James Vazina from our sports desk is here in studio.
00:23James, good to have you with us to talk us through all of this.
00:26It's hugely unexpected, I presume, this move, a stunning move, judges over-appealing the winners of that final.
00:33What exactly happened? What did they decide?
00:35Where do we actually start on this? I mean, this is unbelievable.
00:39This is the statement that CAF have just put out that we received a couple of minutes ago now.
00:45And that statement indeed overturning then what actually happened on the pitch,
00:50what actually happened with Senegal beating Morocco, winning the AFCON final,
00:561-0, and that now being overturned after the appeals board decided that it actually wasn't legitimate.
01:04Why? The result of what we have here is that Senegal didn't follow Article 82.
01:09Article 82 means that if you leave the pitch, then you lose the game.
01:13And the whole talk about that, of course, was with what happens going back two months.
01:18This was two months ago that this happened, 18th of January to be precise.
01:20But just to refresh our minds about it all is that Senegalese players protested when a penalty was given for
01:27Morocco in the final minutes.
01:29And at that point, Senegal took the very audacious and anti-sports, I mean, sports-like decision to leave the
01:37pitch.
01:38It was their way of protesting.
01:40However, the decision has been taken, has been made that they left long enough that everybody in this case would
01:49be considered,
01:50because normally it comes down to whether everybody has left the pitch or not, which wasn't the case.
01:54We saw several players stay on there, including the likes of Sadio Mane and all.
01:59But that decision has now been made that they left, from what we understand here, long enough to cancel out
02:06their performance on the pitch.
02:09That's Article 82.
02:10Article 84, meaning that if you don't follow Article 82, then you lose and you lose 3-0.
02:153-0 is often the score that's given when an event of the likes happens, when a team abandons or
02:21whatnot.
02:22That 1-0 score is turning into 3-0 then for Morocco.
02:27Morocco, unbelievable for anybody, football fans, for Senegal, for Morocco as well.
02:32Senegal have had the trophy in their hands for the last two months.
02:35They've celebrated, they've brought it back home, they've danced, they've sung, they've exploded with joy.
02:40Morocco are set to be handed the trophy, from what we understand here.
02:43Again, all we've had is this statement here that holds pretty much on these pages here from CAF tonight,
02:49putting that out and sending it to us to let us know their decision on that.
02:53Nothing else so far, there's no doubt going to be more, but shocking decision.
02:58The final had it all, so much more that we can go into in more detail.
03:01It had everything in there and this just comes and wraps everything up.
03:04Heartbreak for Senegalese fans, but delight no doubt in Morocco tonight.
03:08James, you'll be joining us a little bit later, I think, with more on that.
