NSW Deputy Police Commissioner David Hudson says detectives are investigating a theory that alleged killer Beau Lamarre-Condon had assistance in moving the bodies of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
Transcript
00:00 I can confirm that on last Monday a week ago,
00:03 the 19th of February, gunshots were heard
00:04 from the Paddington Address.
00:06 Later that evening, we will allege that the accused
00:11 hired a white HiAce van from Sydney Airport.
00:15 On Tuesday, the 20th of February,
00:20 we will allege that partial admissions were made
00:23 by the accused to an acquaintance
00:25 of having been involved in the death of two individuals.
00:30 As we all know, on Wednesday last week,
00:34 the 21st, bloodied clothing was found at Cronulla,
00:38 causing us to launch a missing persons investigation,
00:41 and homicide were obviously notified
00:43 due to the circumstances in which that clothing was found.
00:46 I can indicate that on that same day, the Wednesday,
00:52 the accused, we believe, attended the Bungonia area
00:57 with an acquaintance who was not involved in anything,
01:02 but has assisted police with their inquiries.
01:06 We believe that that acquaintance assisted the accused
01:11 in purchasing an angle grinder and a padlock
01:14 from a local hardware store in that area,
01:16 before driving to a rural property in Bungonia.
01:22 The angle grinder was used to sever a padlock
01:25 from the gate of that particular rural property,
01:29 and subsequently, that padlock was replaced
01:33 with a padlock purchased from the hardware store.
01:36 The acquaintance was left at the top of the property
01:40 for a period of about 30 minutes.
01:42 The accused disappeared for that period in the HiAce van,
01:46 returning to pick up the acquaintance,
01:49 and then they returned to Sydney later that afternoon.
01:52 I can indicate that at 11 p.m. that evening,
01:56 weights were purchased from a department store
02:00 by the accused, and it is believed that the accused
02:03 returned to that rural property overnight,
02:08 and during that evening, having acquired also
02:10 two torches from the acquaintance.
02:12 We can indicate that at 4.30 a.m. on Thursday morning,
02:19 we can place the accused leaving the Bungonia area again.
02:24 It would appear that the accused has remained
02:29 in the city area, still in control of the white HiAce van,
02:34 before attending a further acquaintance premises
02:37 at Newcastle, in the Newcastle area,
02:40 and without fully disclosing any criminality,
02:45 asked access to hose to clean that van.
02:49 We can indicate that the accused remained
02:53 in the Newcastle area until about 5 a.m.,
02:56 returning to the city at about 6.15 a.m. on Friday morning.
03:01 And as I think you're aware, later that morning at 10.39,
03:05 he surrendered himself to Bondi Police Station,
03:07 where he was arrested, and subsequently charged,
03:10 and placed before the court.
03:11 We are currently, we believe we have identified
03:15 the property in Bungonia.
03:17 Obviously a search was underway yesterday,
03:19 and that continues today.
03:22 However, and we are aware of significant media interest
03:26 in that property, we also believe that it's possible
03:29 the accused in that gap in the timeline
03:34 has returned to that property, and retrieved the bodies,
03:37 and disposed of them somewhere else.
