Tasmanians still unclear over the stadium for their new AFL team

It remains unclear how Labor would re-negotiate the states deal with the AFL for a Tasmanian team and stadium at Macquarie Point.

00:08 The party insists it wants a Tasmanian AFL club, but not under the current terms that

00:13 hinge on the new stadium.

00:15 So we want to sit down like adults, talk to the AFL about how we can ensure we get an

00:19 AFL team in a deal that can actually happen.

00:23 On its list of demands, more money from the league.

00:26 If they want a stadium so badly, they should put more money in.

00:29 But Labor won't reveal what else it wants, and just how it would renegotiate the deal.

00:34 With the AFL once again reaffirming its stance, it won't be budging.

00:40 That's the agreement that we have with the Tasmanian government, and that's the agreement

00:43 that the AFL commission has and what the 18 AFL clubs have.

00:46 AFL and AFLW teams for Tasmania, but only if the government builds a new stadium for

00:51 them to play in at Macquarie Point, as per the state's business case.

00:56 With at least 23,000 people and with a roof, because that was a pivotal part of the business

01:04 Government funding for the stadium is capped at $375 million across five years.

01:10 In return, the AFL will pour more than $350 million into the Tasmanian game and clubs,

01:17 including $25 million into the stadium and high performance centre.

01:21 We have struck a deal which is a great deal for Tasmania.

01:23 The government doesn't believe the stadium can be built for that amount, but is yet to

01:27 present an alternative plan for a home base for a Tasmanian club.

01:32 And while some voters' minds are well and truly made up, others are still waiting to

01:36 see how their vote might make or break the state's footy dream.
