00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:03 Hi, I'm Cassie Anderson, the fashion director
00:12 at Cosmopolitan Magazine.
00:14 And this is how I styled Alex Earl.
00:17 We are here in the Cosmopolitan fashion closet.
00:19 And we're about to have a fashion run through for Alex
00:22 Earl with our editor in chief.
00:24 I'm a little bit nervous, but I feel pretty confident
00:27 because the clothes speak for themselves.
00:29 Wow.
00:30 [GASPS]
00:31 Isn't it magical?
00:32 Oh my god.
00:35 This is so exciting.
00:36 This is the best pull ever.
00:39 Really?
00:40 It was the best fashion.
00:41 This is so good.
00:43 It was perfect for Alex.
00:45 This was made for her.
00:46 Yeah.
00:47 It's so good.
00:48 Cassie.
00:49 It hit all the right notes.
00:50 The highlights of spring, so movement, 3D.
00:54 I'll take you from left to right.
00:56 Yeah.
00:57 So coming back from Paris, I saw a lot of texture
01:00 and movement on the runway.
01:02 The beach immediately came to mind for me
01:05 just because we get a lot of movement on the beach.
01:08 The wind is good.
01:09 And I thought that the wind through the fringe
01:12 and through all the textures would create a lot of movement
01:15 and motion for us.
01:16 Not full Coney Island.
01:17 We're going to go abstract, kind of like weird.
01:20 Not quite surreal, but like, yeah, like really tight moment.
01:23 This will really catch the wind here.
01:25 Yeah.
01:26 It's a pant, and then it has all of this happening.
01:30 Whoa.
01:30 And then the bag that matches.
01:32 Oh my god.
01:33 So there's just like a lot to play with.
01:34 This says Tori, believe it or not.
01:37 Did we just see that walk?
01:38 Yes.
01:39 No way.
01:40 This just walked.
01:40 These are spring collections.
01:42 We've had to really push all the brands to get a spring
01:46 because, you know, they're in market.
01:48 They're shooting their ad campaigns.
01:50 This was tricky.
01:51 Something that people might not know
01:54 is that when you see that collection come down the runway,
01:57 that's the only one in existence in the entire world.
02:01 We're shooting it so close after collections
02:03 came down the runway.
02:04 My main concern was actually getting the clothing.
02:07 I want it just as badly as Vogue wants it or Elle wants it.
02:11 Any influencer, any celebrity walking the red carpet,
02:14 we're all fighting over that one sample, that one look.
02:18 It can get a little cutthroat.
02:20 It's so good.
02:20 But this--
02:21 With the bag.
02:22 --itself is a moment, but it goes over these little bloomers
02:25 with the tank.
02:25 Yes.
02:26 Amazing.
02:27 What you see coming down the runway
02:29 isn't necessarily what you're going to be wearing head
02:32 to toe, but maybe you're inspired by it a little bit
02:35 or you see one thing that you want to take from it.
02:38 It's fantastic.
02:40 Thanks, guys.
02:41 I feel so loved.
02:43 I'm on my game today.
02:45 Today we are shooting on Coney Island.
02:51 I love being on the beach.
02:53 We are super excited about the movement
02:56 that the wind is going to create and blowing through some
02:59 of the texture in the clothing.
03:01 Alex Earl is a bit of an it girl.
03:03 She's cool.
03:05 She's trendy, but in an understated way.
03:07 I knew that we weren't going to be challenged
03:09 too much with her.
03:10 Good morning.
03:15 How are you?
03:16 Good, I'm Cassie.
03:17 Alex, how are you?
03:17 Hi.
03:18 Welcome.
03:19 I'm the fashion director.
03:20 Do you want to look at fashion really quick?
03:22 OK, let's do it.
03:23 Today is all about texture.
03:24 And this is a spring collection story.
03:27 So everything here just walked.
03:30 This is Balmain, which I'm really excited about.
03:33 Isn't this major?
03:34 Like latex?
03:36 No, it's so cool, right?
03:37 And the flowers.
03:39 So we love this.
03:40 This is one of our favorite pieces.
03:42 I'm glad you like it.
03:43 Beautiful paillette.
03:46 It's a little sheer, so we'll do a little panty underneath it.
03:50 This is also one of my favorites, Alta Zara.
03:53 It's very--
03:55 OK, loving the texture.
03:56 --layered.
03:57 Yeah, exactly.
03:58 And then we have things to play with, like pieces of net.
04:02 So when we're out on the beach, we'll get that wind.
04:05 This Carolina is also so major when it's on.
04:10 It really has shape.
04:12 I was going to say I like the shape of this one.
04:14 Yeah, so it's like a nice waist, and then it peplums out.
04:18 This rotate look, which the back is like complete fringe.
04:23 Isn't that so cool?
04:25 Exactly, lots of movement.
04:27 We're going to have the best day.
04:30 Yeah, exactly.
04:31 I mean, who doesn't go to the beach in latex, right?
04:34 The best thing that I liked about styling Alex
04:36 was the level of trust that we had with each other.
04:39 We had just met that morning.
04:41 She loved everything that I was showing her.
04:43 We just had this great dialogue back and forth at work.
04:45 It was super organic.
04:46 It was easy.
04:47 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
04:51 Yeah.
04:51 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
04:52 Oh, it's in my pocket.
04:53 I've got it.
04:54 But it's good.
04:55 It looks so good.
04:56 Thanks, Whitney.
04:57 We'll be back, OK?
04:57 Yeah, for sure.
04:58 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
05:03 Amazing.
05:03 All right, let's go.
05:05 Are you OK?
05:05 Do you want me to unzip a little bit from the back?
05:07 I'm OK.
05:08 The day started pretty overcast and moody,
05:15 and we kind of leaned into that a little bit.
05:17 So we liked the moodiness of it.
05:18 And it was kind of like the start to the day.
05:22 The weather itself told a story.
05:24 The sun is supposed to come out around like 2, 3.
05:28 Because then the sun gradually started to come out
05:31 as we were shooting more.
05:32 And then I remember when we had bright blue sky,
05:35 I think we were shooting the fringe leather jacket when
05:38 the sun started coming out.
05:39 An RV.
05:40 Yeah.
05:40 Yeah, these are really pretty.
05:42 It's wax.
05:42 Cool.
05:43 All right, I think we're good here.
05:44 We have this.
05:45 OK, cool.
05:46 Our photographer is Brendan Wickston.
05:49 We worked with him a couple of times in the past now,
05:51 and we absolutely love him.
05:53 He captures the best moments.
05:55 She moved really well in the fashion.
06:08 She immediately started to play.
06:09 She knew what to do.
06:10 We didn't really have to direct her.
06:12 And that was super helpful, and we got some real moments out
06:15 of that.
06:16 And she was graceful wearing the clothing also.
06:20 So she knew that if there was fringe or just
06:24 like a little bit of texture, she knew what to do with it
06:26 and how to move to kind of capture that,
06:27 help us capture that the shoot was about motion and texture.
06:33 I feel like there's been a lot of shoots lately where I am
06:37 hovered over a pile of clothes.
06:40 You know how challenging it is to style in the sand like this?
06:45 And the beach can be super unpredictable,
06:46 especially in New York.
06:47 Even though we didn't utilize Coney Island,
06:50 it was still there.
06:51 It created this fun atmosphere, I think, laid back.
06:54 [LAUGHTER]
06:58 It's so funny to see this.
06:59 [LAUGHTER]
07:03 Wait, you kind of look like Gru from the Minions, right?
07:06 Like the shape.
07:06 [LAUGHTER]
07:10 I also thought, you know, the beach
07:11 would be a perfect place to get a lot of wind
07:15 to create that movement with the fringe and the texture,
07:18 and then also have the sunshine hit some of the sequins
07:21 and create those flares and flashes
07:23 that I thought would really make the clothes come alive.
07:25 I'm going to want wind to catch these when she's standing.
07:30 [WIND BLOWING]
07:35 Even though we're shooting on the beach,
07:36 I didn't want to lean into beach.
07:38 I wanted it to be a beautiful backdrop
07:40 and still make it about spring/summer collection.
07:43 When we wrapped, we all got on one of the roller coasters.
07:48 Alex sat in front.
07:49 I sat in the back and screamed the entire time.
07:52 Thought it was my final moments here on Earth.
07:55 And then we all had a margarita on the boardwalk.
07:57 Cheers!
07:59 Woo!
08:00 I love Cosmo.
08:01 The day went really smooth, I have to say.
08:04 This was one of the smoothest shoots I've ever worked on.
08:08 The best part about styling Alex was that she was so agreeable.
08:13 It was as if I was working with a professional model.
08:16 And she looked beautiful.
08:17 So she trusted me, and I trusted her.
