Grandmaster Flash tells THR on the red carpet at the 2024 Grammys who he is listening to this year and reveals what's on his 2024 bucket list.

00:00 How does it feel to be back here at the Grammys again?

00:02 It is an absolute pleasure and for me I think that our culture that was considered underground

00:08 should be in venues and situations just like this.

00:12 Now this year I did come here to see some of my friends win awards

00:17 and see who's upcoming, what's the latest music that's going to win awards.

00:21 But I also am here for a biased reason because there's a jazz artist by the name of Bob James

00:29 and I broke this song in 1975 called "Take Me to the Mardi Gras"

00:33 and now he's up, he's nominated to win a Grammy.

00:38 And the producers on that album, DJ Jazzy Jeff, which is one of my close friends,

00:43 I call him little brother, he's up for nomination and I'm here to say he needs to get that piece of steel.

00:51 That's why I'm here.

00:53 I love it.

00:54 I'm with Jazzy Jeff.

00:56 For you, who are some up and coming hip hop artists that you really love and are listening to right now?

01:01 Whenever I try to answer that question it always got me in trouble.

01:06 Because I'll hear on the internet, on the post, "Why you didn't say me? Why you didn't say me?"

01:12 So I'm going to shut my damn mouth and say there's so many of y'all but I'm not going to say one.

01:17 I'm going to be fair. I got to be a fair dad. That's how it's going down.

01:20 Outside of hip hop, who are some artists you've been loving this past year?

01:25 Definitely came true. I feel like it came true right here.

01:27 I'll tell you what I listen to when I'm chilling.

01:30 Debussy, Stravinsky, Bach, Beethoven.

01:38 Because of their rhythms.

01:41 I take those rhythms into a recording studio or I take them rhythms while I'm on the turntables.

01:46 So that's a big thing that I listen to and I listen to jazz as well.

01:50 I love that. Amazing. I mean, true inspiration.

01:53 Right, because I like to go outside of my community, musically speaking, to introduce something into the community.

02:02 So whether I'm DJing or whether I'm producing, that's pretty much how I do me.

02:09 That's amazing. In 2024, what's something you have coming up that you're excited about?

02:14 Lectures. I want to lecture to all the children.

02:20 I want to lecture in universities because there's still people on this planet that don't understand the inception of where this thing comes from

02:29 and how important it is and how it's touched so many people.

02:32 Children, grown-ups, college students. I want to do lectures.

02:37 Because everything else I've done. All the awards, I had them all.

02:43 So our bucket list is lectures this year.

02:47 I signed with Primary Way, which is a major management company, so they're going to help me pull this off.
