00:00 If you're not escaping the cold this winter, you're probably anticipating a spring break getaway.
00:06 And here to discuss some of the best locations to think about this spring is Editor-in-Chief of
00:12 Skiff, the leading travel news site, Sarah Koppe. Good morning.
00:15 Good morning.
00:17 We appreciate you being with us. I know you're out of Brooklyn and she's not happy with the
00:22 cold rainy weather, so I'm sure you are thinking about making some travel plans.
00:28 And other people probably are too, Sarah. In years past,
00:32 expected to this year, what are people kind of expecting for travel this spring break?
00:35 So travel has been booming since the pandemic. You know, we always talk about revenge travel
00:42 and people getting out there and enjoying things, and we see no sign of that stopping this year.
00:47 So expect spring break to be busy and exuberant as always. You know, like you said, here in
00:55 Brooklyn, it's about 45 degrees and raining right now. Everybody's got COVID. Everybody's got the
01:00 flu. So I think people are more than ready to start booking those trips for spring break.
01:05 Yes, of course. So if people are booking their trips,
01:08 can you name some of those top spring break destinations for us?
01:11 Yeah, so the spring break destinations this year are pretty much the same as last year,
01:17 if you really think about it. These places are tried and true and popular for a reason.
01:22 We've got Cancun. We've got Florida. Then there are some of the other places that people have
01:27 been really interested in, you know, maybe for a more adult spring break, like Paris and Japan.
01:35 These are places that are super popular with Americans right now. But it all depends a little
01:40 bit about when your spring break is, right? We always think about it traditionally as being
01:44 based around school vacation. Colleges are a little bit earlier. High schools are little,
01:49 or high schools and, you know, for the family trips, they're a little bit later in April this
01:54 year. So that all will play a little bit into where people are going and when they're doing it.
01:59 What are big things that travelers need to think about as they book for spring break?
02:04 I'm sure weather is a huge concern.
02:05 Weather is a huge concern. That's why, you know, the places like Cancun and the Dominican Republic
02:12 and Florida often are very high on everybody's list because they are typically very sunny,
02:18 warm, and, you know, historically a very good chance of giving us some sun and sand during
02:25 whichever spring break we choose. We also have to think about timing, you know, how
02:30 prepared are people? Where are you? Where is your family on the preparedness? We've got a lot of
02:36 people who plan months and months and months in advance, you know, they are on it. And then we've
02:41 got others who are like, oh, next week, right, everybody's off school, we should decide what to
02:46 do. That would be more like my family. So that really does also play into where you're going to
02:52 go. Sure. No, I like that. And sometimes maybe you're like, I have some holiday vacation to use,
02:56 I've got vacations at work, and you want to make a last minute trip. Can you give us some tips about
03:01 when to make that last minute trip and if there's maybe a cutoff time for spring break vacationers?
03:07 Yeah. So spring break is really popular. So you're going to want to do it as quickly. If you want to
03:12 get where you really want to go, you're going to want to do it, you know, a couple months in
03:16 advance, I would say a lot of people start doing it right after Christmas. That's traditionally when
03:21 people start thinking about, you know, their next year. So in this year, the 2024 plans.
03:26 I would say if you're getting within two weeks of when your spring break is, that's going to be
03:32 pretty tough. You're going to have, you're going to see prices across the board skyrocket. But if
03:37 you've got enough money, you know, there's a lot of options out there for you. The other thing is,
03:42 is if you haven't planned, and you're willing to be flexible with where you're going,
03:47 there are tons of apps and, you know, Google OTAs who are able to help you. You know, basically,
03:54 like I've got this week off, you know, I want to go to the beach, I want to go somewhere that's
03:59 warm. Tell me, you know, what's available. And so if you're willing to, you know, kind of take
04:05 a chance and go somewhere maybe you've never gone before or never thought of going before,
04:10 that's a really good option for the last minute traveler. Awesome advice, Sarah Kopp,
04:15 and Editor-in-Chief of Skiff. I hope that you find yourself some spring break, or at least we can
04:20 send you some warmer, drier weather into New York City. Thanks so much for joining us this morning.
04:24 Thank you. All right.
