00:00 Triumph has given its 2024 Tiger 900 13% more horsepower.
00:05 Is that enough to thrust it in the spotlight?
00:08 We're here in sunny southern Spain to find out.
00:10 Triumph's Tiger 900 has always sat in the shadow of its KTM, BMW, and even Ducati competition.
00:18 But why is that?
00:19 Could it be because it's a little bit down on power compared to the other models?
00:22 Well, it looks like Triumph thinks so.
00:25 So for 2024, they have increased the power significantly on these two bikes.
00:30 We've got the Tiger 900 GT Pro and the Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
00:36 There's also a GT standard model, but we didn't have that model here to test.
00:40 Let's talk about the engine.
00:41 In the 23 model was awesome, but it was a little bit down on power.
00:45 And now it comes on with a lot more juice, 13% more.
00:49 So now it has 106.7 horsepower and 66.4 pound feet of torque.
00:57 On the road, you can really, really use that extra power.
01:01 It's got a lot more over rev.
01:02 It makes most of its new power on top.
01:04 It hasn't dropped anything down below.
01:07 On the road, you can really rev it out now and it really comes on strong on the top.
01:11 But it still has that nice torquey character that's kind of always had is twin like,
01:16 but also with the ferocity and readiness of a triple.
01:20 On the off-road, it works great too.
01:22 You're not always up in those upper rev ranges all the time.
01:25 You're kind of torquing around, but it's always been good at the off-road
01:28 because it does act like a parallel twin.
01:30 It does have a real torquey, nice character.
01:33 But then when you really want to wick it up on some nice fire roads, it rips.
01:37 There's multiple chassis for you to choose from on this motorcycle.
01:42 You've got the GT Pro, you've got the Rally Pro, and you've got the GT.
01:46 So GT Pro is obviously more street oriented.
01:48 It's got a 19-inch front wheel, a 17-inch rear wheel, cast wheels,
01:52 lower seat height, lower suspension.
01:55 It's got 170 millimeters of travel.
01:57 It still has off-road modes and it has all the things you need.
02:00 Overall, pretty good.
02:01 But there are some issues with it.
02:03 It does have a heavy turn-in.
02:06 Kind of wants to push when it's finishing up a corner if you're riding really hard.
02:09 I think that all comes down to the roads we were on.
02:12 Sometimes not the best maintained.
02:14 They're dirty, they're slick.
02:16 I'd really like to get this model back in California on some nice sticky tarmac and
02:21 see how it handles.
02:22 But on the other hand, the Rally Pro, this thing is a masterpiece on and off-road.
02:28 Even with its 21-inch front tire with spoked wheels, the chassis on this one, longer travel,
02:33 240 millimeters front and rear, manually adjustable.
02:37 So you're going to have to do all your adjustments by hand.
02:40 The road following on this longer suspension travel, especially on the bumpy kind of back
02:46 roads where you're bouncing around, this follows the road really well on the pavement.
02:50 And it's really confidence-inspiring.
02:52 And on the stock tires that it comes with, it's really, really good on the road.
02:56 Super confidence-inspiring and super communicative.
02:58 And you know what it's doing all the time.
03:00 It's just a street ripper.
03:02 For the off-road sections, it is really, really, really fun.
03:06 Same character on the road.
03:08 It's easy to flick around.
03:10 It's easy to throw in the corners.
03:11 It just kind of goes exactly where you want it off-road.
03:15 Like you can really pick and choose your lines.
03:17 It's probably one of the funnest motorcycles I've ridden off-road because it's just so
03:22 light and so flickable.
03:24 So number three are the ergonomics.
03:26 Like we said, there's three variants of the Tiger 900.
03:29 And those ergonomics on these two bikes can suit what you are looking for, for the most
03:34 part.
03:35 900, you've got the low seat height.
03:37 You're kind of sitting in the bike.
03:38 It's got a nice flat seat.
03:40 It's got a heated seat and heated grips standard, which is super rad.
03:44 It's got a comfortable reach of the bar.
03:46 They're nice and wide.
03:47 On the Raleigh Pro, the bars are set back 15 millimeters.
03:52 You've got obviously a taller seat height.
03:54 It's roomy.
03:54 There's tons of like seat to leg room.
03:57 You don't feel cramped in the bike.
03:58 Just really nice.
03:59 Number four are the electronics.
04:01 The electronics on this bike are good.
04:03 So you've got rider modes.
04:05 We've got a sport mode.
04:06 You've got a road mode.
04:08 You've got an off-road mode.
04:09 You've got a rain mode on the Raleigh Pro.
04:11 You've also got an off-road pro mode.
04:13 And all those modes are tied to trash control and ABS and throttle response.
04:18 And you go in, you can change those around.
04:20 But the standard modes are really good.
04:23 Sport mode, the power is snappy.
04:25 It's immediate.
04:26 On the GT Pro, the rear end stiffens up.
04:30 It becomes a more taut ride.
04:32 And the ABS is a little less intrusive.
04:36 Off-road mode, a little less immediate response.
04:40 You've got a trash control that works for the dirt.
04:43 It's optimized for the dirt.
04:45 Changes the ABS, turns the rear ABS off.
04:47 The new 7-inch TFT dash is bright.
04:52 It's clear.
04:52 It's the same one that's on the Tiger 1200.
04:55 And it's really easy to navigate with the thumb cube.
04:58 That's kind of triumphs had for quite a while.
05:01 What are our likes and dislikes?
05:03 The Raleigh Pro, there's really not much we don't like about it.
05:07 Maybe the 15-millimeter setback handlebar.
05:10 But everything else about this bike is fantastic.
05:14 GT Pro, handling is a little heavy, but it's not egregious and it's not terrible.
05:18 But if we're nitpicking, we can point out a few little things.
05:21 We can say that it takes a little more effort than we think it should.
05:24 And when it's finishing up a corner, if you're hard on the gas,
05:27 it likes to push itself a little bit wide.
05:29 But other than that, this thing is just as awesome as this.
05:32 Is for the dirt.
05:33 This is for the street.
05:34 But I think if you're going to go shopping and you're going to be looking at a Tiger,
05:38 you should really be looking at the Raleigh Pro.
05:41 The Tiger 900 definitely is a bike you should be looking at if you're shopping for a KTM 890,
05:47 Ducati Desert X, or a BMW F900 GS.
05:50 I absolutely recommend that it should be on your shortlist of middleweight adventure motorcycles.
