Loving London: Brick Lane and its diverse food and fashion scene

We head on a cultural journey down Brick Lane, take a look at all the different restaurants and speak to some locals about the area.

00:00 It's soon to be Valentine's Day, a day celebrating love.

00:05 But what do we love about this city of London?

00:08 I mean, there's so much to it, isn't there?

00:11 You have the iconic landmarks from Big Ben to Parliament, Trafalgar Square, and then

00:16 you have our parks and green spaces that are an escape from the city itself.

00:21 But the thing that makes London so special is its diverse culture that brings with it

00:26 one of the best food scenes in the world.

00:30 I'm on the iconic Brick Lane in East London and nothing represents how multicultural this

00:36 city is more than this street right here.

00:39 So come with me as we go on a cultural food journey down Brick Lane.

00:46 This road really has everything, but we wouldn't be able to begin this journey without starting

00:52 at the iconic Bagel Bake Brick Lane Bakery that has queues down the road with customers

00:58 waiting to get their hands on some salt beef goodness.

01:03 And then almost next door is a Japanese sake and cake bar, a cafe I didn't know was missing

01:08 from my life.

01:09 But just look at these amazing cakes.

01:13 Then slightly further down the road, we have a chocolate store inspired by chocolates from

01:17 around the world.

01:18 And yes, it is actually the answer to everything.

01:23 Even Brick Lane itself has hidden alleyways and streets leading to different types of

01:27 food from burgers to German sausage stands and much more as well.

01:34 But as we're drawn back onto Brick Lane itself, we're hit by a flurry of curry restaurants

01:40 and other Indian cafes.

01:43 I feel like there's a lot of diversity, also the vintage markets, the curry houses, definitely,

01:51 food, food markets, people.

01:56 In summer, I feel like I survive.

01:59 When it comes to Brick Lane, the first thing I think of would be fashion.

02:03 But I know when you go to that half of Brick Lane, there's just a lot of, I would say,

02:08 diversity and food and that kind of stuff.

02:10 I love that it's kind of like a blend of the new kind of fashion and kind of the old original

02:18 culture as well.

02:19 I really like that.

02:20 I love on the weekends when it becomes a massive food market and you can have all different

02:24 kinds of food.

02:25 That's always really nice.

02:26 That's the most, I would say, where the culture diversity really comes out.

02:30 It attracts a lot of different people from all over the world, which is nice.

02:34 Lots of different people come here.

02:35 Yeah.

02:36 It's nice to live around here and experience that too.

02:39 How often is it you see a Georgian restaurant?

02:42 Not that often, but here on Brick Lane, we have one.

02:45 And that's what this place is all about, isn't it?

02:47 Forget fusion restaurants.

02:49 This is a fusion street.

02:51 One walk on this road will feel like you're traveling around the world and that's Brick

02:55 Lane.
