00:00:24 In Port of Spain.
00:00:48 All right, so very special good morning
00:00:50 to all of you on TV6.
00:00:52 Also, a very special good morning to our friends
00:00:55 on Red 96.7.
00:00:56 You know this lady?
00:00:57 This is Whitney Husband.
00:00:59 So she's going to be with us here for the next two weeks.
00:01:03 So it's three weeks before Carnival, three weekends.
00:01:06 And she's going to be with us here for those three Fridays.
00:01:10 Whitney, good morning.
00:01:11 Good morning, Marlon.
00:01:13 This was challenging, because usually I wake up at 5
00:01:16 and I have to wake up at 4.
00:01:18 Because I know that I have to be here with you.
00:01:21 And it's Carnival season.
00:01:22 So I'm excited.
00:01:23 I'm really excited.
00:01:24 And thank you for having me here.
00:01:25 Special good morning to all the viewers out there
00:01:28 and the family of TV6 and Red 96.7 that's locked on.
00:01:33 And today we're going to jumpstart
00:01:34 the Carnival the right way.
00:01:35 And I'm glad that you're not in formal attire.
00:01:39 You're casual today.
00:01:40 Yeah, but Whitney, I know that you have been at the FETS
00:01:44 working, I must say, doing a very good job at it.
00:01:49 But what is the vibe at the FETS?
00:01:51 What are you feeling?
00:01:52 I mean, it has been a very short season.
00:01:55 Very, very short.
00:01:56 And the season is going to end in the next few weeks.
00:01:58 But what is the feeling out there?
00:02:00 Well, what is taking place, there are many factors.
00:02:03 One, money.
00:02:05 Yeah.
00:02:07 It is true.
00:02:08 Money is a bit hard to come by right now.
00:02:11 So prisons are watching how they spend their money,
00:02:13 because they want to make sure for the next month
00:02:15 they're able to push through.
00:02:17 And then there's crime.
00:02:19 The crime situation where prisons are saying,
00:02:21 should I take the chance to even leave my home in case
00:02:24 something happened?
00:02:25 I'm not saying they're anything.
00:02:26 You just don't know who you're standing up next to.
00:02:28 You don't know what may happen when you're leaving,
00:02:30 because you're just a target.
00:02:32 So all these things that people are watching out.
00:02:34 And then on top of that, people are
00:02:36 trying to get to know the music.
00:02:38 Because in that short space of time,
00:02:41 the music is there, and the artists
00:02:44 are releasing the music.
00:02:46 But the issue is the period in which for us to get to know it.
00:02:49 And these soca babies and these soca lovers that are out there,
00:02:52 they're trying to take in everything,
00:02:54 because the artists are no longer doing music
00:02:56 like a seasonal thing.
00:02:57 It is now, it's just music that we are releasing.
00:03:00 And if I have to release 10 songs, I'm releasing 10 songs.
00:03:03 But I think more so than ever, the energy
00:03:05 will really kick in when the foreigners come in.
00:03:09 I think that's where it starts.
00:03:10 And I thought the last weekend, because from seeing
00:03:12 from Soca and Experience and CIC,
00:03:16 where the energy is now building up,
00:03:17 I think those were the major events where we
00:03:19 saw a lot of people coming out.
00:03:20 And this week is the month that people
00:03:23 will be getting the money.
00:03:25 All right.
00:03:25 So we will see how that goes.
00:03:27 So here's what.
00:03:27 A very special good morning again to all of our viewers
00:03:30 on TV6.
00:03:30 A very special good morning to all of our listeners on Red 96.7.
00:03:34 Of course, Whitney is here with us this morning.
00:03:36 And also, Chyne is expected to join us a little later.
00:03:39 All right?
00:03:40 But Whitney, let's start the entertainment right away.
00:03:42 We have Mr. Johnny Stollmeyer.
00:03:45 Yeah?
00:03:45 You have money?
00:03:47 No, no.
00:03:47 Not on set.
00:03:49 You mean to pay Johnny?
00:03:50 Yes.
00:03:51 Because you know, when the midnight rubber
00:03:53 shows up, you need to have money.
00:03:55 So I hope he knows that we have no money this morning on us.
00:03:58 At all.
00:03:59 So we welcome--
00:04:00 Johnny, come this way.
00:04:01 Good morning.
00:04:03 Yeah?
00:04:04 It's a pleasure to have you here, Johnny.
00:04:07 But Johnny, you have been doing this for a number of years now.
00:04:10 Yes.
00:04:11 Why the midnight rubber?
00:04:12 Right.
00:04:13 I was living in Toronto, 1990.
00:04:16 And Caribana, that year, they were playing "Birds Are Us."
00:04:23 So I realized I had a Royal Air Force flight suit and a gas
00:04:28 mask that were dark gray.
00:04:29 Yes.
00:04:30 And that they could become the basis of a vulture costume.
00:04:33 While I was making the costume, these lyrics
00:04:35 started to just come into my head.
00:04:37 I had to keep putting down my tools
00:04:38 and writing down, writing down.
00:04:40 And by the time I finished, I realized I had a rubber speech.
00:04:44 So I went and did some research.
00:04:46 And I cobbled together some traditional speeches
00:04:49 with my own speech.
00:04:51 Came back in '96 and was introduced
00:04:55 by the Rapsoe fraternity in "Breaking New Ground."
00:04:59 And at that point, Brian Honore came up to me
00:05:02 and invited me to join the Mystery Raiders.
00:05:04 Yeah, the late Brian Honore.
00:05:06 Correct.
00:05:07 Well, Johnny, we are pressed for time.
00:05:09 I want you to bring out your wares this morning, as it were,
00:05:14 and give us your presentation.
00:05:16 Yeah?
00:05:17 So the stage is yours, Johnny.
00:05:18 Johnny Stolmire, everyone.
00:05:20 Greetings, greetings, brothers and sisters, dearly beloved.
00:05:32 It's going to be with great pleasure
00:05:34 and a little gentle persuasion that I relieve you of your,
00:05:37 by now, precariously held world view.
00:05:41 Representing the autochthonous tribal societies of the Orinoco
00:05:45 Bay region, I have come from the ancestors
00:05:48 to facilitate the paradigm shift,
00:05:50 to clean up this 10,000-year-old mess you got yourself into,
00:05:55 to free you of any further illusions
00:05:57 you might have of dominion, to uproot and to utterly destroy
00:06:02 that vision your culture carries that is impelling us all
00:06:06 to the brink of disaster.
00:06:07 No, the earth does not belong to you.
00:06:11 You belong to the earth.
00:06:13 In the beginning, it was dark and still
00:06:16 with a great and terrible stillness.
00:06:19 You know what it is to be alone?
00:06:21 Can I hear a witness?
00:06:23 You could never be alone like I was alone.
00:06:25 There was no sound.
00:06:27 There was no motion.
00:06:29 Only me, the great and illustrious-to-be King
00:06:32 Kobo, master of infinity.
00:06:35 And so I'm going to leave you now
00:06:36 to attend to the ecological regeneration of the ecosystem I
00:06:39 call home, joining with my neighbors
00:06:42 to optimize for biodiversity.
00:06:45 No more will I roam.
00:06:47 When you mine the soil life and catch and store
00:06:50 rainwater and fertility high on the landscape,
00:06:54 it will mind us.
00:06:56 Planting food forests for wildlife,
00:06:58 we will reap what we sow.
00:07:00 There is no escape.
00:07:01 It is in our biological communities
00:07:04 we must trust all our relations, ancestor spirit guides,
00:07:08 elemental beings.
00:07:09 Give thanks and praises for the many blessings bestowed upon I
00:07:12 and I, I, tenually, all our relations.
00:07:14 Johnny Sawmya, everyone.
00:07:19 Johnny, thank you very much this morning.
00:07:21 Johnny, just a reminder, how long have you been doing this?
00:07:25 Since 1990.
00:07:26 Yeah.
00:07:27 Yeah.
00:07:28 And Johnny, can we see you anywhere
00:07:30 for the carnival season?
00:07:32 We'll be on the streets.
00:07:33 We'll be on the streets.
00:07:34 Yeah.
00:07:35 On the streets.
00:07:35 The street, yes.
00:07:37 We're actually planning to set up on Supriani Boulevard
00:07:40 and share some speeches there if people want to gather.
00:07:43 All right.
00:07:43 Johnny Sawmya, it was a pleasure speaking with you this morning,
00:07:46 Johnny.
00:07:47 And thank you very much for your presentation.
00:07:48 Whitney, come this way, girl.
00:07:50 We're going to carry up the energy, you know, Whitney.
00:07:55 I would like you to perform a song for us.
00:07:57 What song is this?
00:07:58 A so-called calypso.
00:08:01 At the end of the show, we can check.
00:08:03 So I have to make that up on the spot then?
00:08:05 Yes.
00:08:05 Yeah?
00:08:06 All right.
00:08:07 Extempo.
00:08:08 Well, I'm not too good at extempo,
00:08:12 but look, somebody who is good at extempo.
00:08:15 Chiny, come this way.
00:08:17 Come on, Chiny.
00:08:18 Run on.
00:08:18 Run on, Chiny.
00:08:21 Good morning.
00:08:22 Morning, everyone.
00:08:23 Morning, morning.
00:08:24 Stopping morning.
00:08:25 Happy carnival.
00:08:26 You're early.
00:08:27 You're early.
00:08:28 Happy Friday.
00:08:29 Yeah?
00:08:30 So I was saying to Whitney earlier, Chiny,
00:08:33 your assessment of the season--
00:08:35 it has been a very short one.
00:08:38 We just have a few weeks again.
00:08:40 What's your analysis?
00:08:43 I am of the thought process that Trinidad and Tobago has not
00:08:50 immersed themselves in the energy of what
00:08:54 carnival is as yet.
00:08:57 However, I can tell you that it is a mountain
00:09:02 to be something great.
00:09:04 It is a mountain to every single household
00:09:09 locking in to what the music is, to where the vets are,
00:09:14 to what we are supposed to do in a time like this.
00:09:18 So it may be a bit later than usual, but we are getting there.
00:09:24 Let me jump start on it here first.
00:09:26 Whitney, Chiny sounding deep this morning.
00:09:29 No, yes.
00:09:29 He's a deep man.
00:09:31 No, yeah, we're going on.
00:09:32 [INTERPOSING VOICES]
00:09:33 No, no, no.
00:09:34 Yeah, we're going on.
00:09:35 It's strange.
00:09:35 Yeah, we're going on.
00:09:36 This carnival in particular is strange.
00:09:38 And I'm going to add a different layer.
00:09:40 I'm going to add a different layer, right?
00:09:42 What is happening is that we have
00:09:44 to learn how to carnival all over again,
00:09:48 especially after the pandemic and the lockdown, right?
00:09:51 Reset.
00:09:51 There's an entire reset of how to vet.
00:09:55 Who is vetting, how we are vetting,
00:09:57 and how much we are willing to pay to vet.
00:10:01 Yeah.
00:10:02 All right, so to our viewers, to our listeners on Red 96.7,
00:10:07 it's like coming home, not shiny.
00:10:09 Let them know that we are shiny.
00:10:11 We are home.
00:10:11 I'll be home.
00:10:12 Yeah, all of us are home, right?
00:10:15 All right, so we are going to have a very short break.
00:10:18 You all, we are coming back with some entertainment for you.

00:14:05 Yes, we are on the rooftop.
00:14:06 It's Carnival on TV 6 and Red 96.7.
00:14:10 Whitney, Shiny, you're going to take up the energy a little bit
00:14:14 now, eh?
00:14:14 Yes.
00:14:15 Already?
00:14:15 Of course, we're not sticking.
00:14:16 We're getting ready for the sunrise.
00:14:17 Already.
00:14:18 And that being said, we are in the heart of Port of Spain.
00:14:22 And apart from being in the heart of Port of Spain,
00:14:25 we have to go to the Freetown.
00:14:28 And Freetown Collective is here with us.
00:14:30 We have Lou, we have Mud.
00:14:31 They will be joining us and talk to us more
00:14:33 about the Carnival season.
00:14:35 The Carnival season is shaping up.
00:14:36 My brother is shining bright.
00:14:37 We ran to the hills, you know?
00:14:38 We ran to the hills.
00:14:40 Freetown Collective, everybody.
00:14:41 Yes.
00:14:42 Gentlemen, respect.
00:14:45 They're picking it up.
00:14:46 They're seeing it.
00:14:47 They're demonstrating it.
00:14:48 That's the first thing I said to you, too.
00:14:51 I know Freetown coming this morning.
00:14:52 You see that man, Keto?
00:14:53 I want to go by Lou.
00:14:55 I want to go by Lou.
00:14:56 I want to go by Lou.
00:14:57 I want to go by Lou.
00:14:58 Happy Carnival, guys.
00:14:59 First of all, welcome.
00:15:00 Give thanks.
00:15:01 And thanks for joining us.
00:15:02 Of course, we are live on Red 967.
00:15:04 You're all no strangers when it comes
00:15:06 to the culture and the arts.
00:15:08 I like to say that, the arts.
00:15:10 Make you wake up.
00:15:11 Yeah, I'm up now.
00:15:11 You made me wake up.
00:15:12 She was up just now.
00:15:13 I know, but I woke today.
00:15:14 It's like Whitney.
00:15:15 I said, Whitney, don't know my way.
00:15:16 What is going on?
00:15:17 You made me.
00:15:18 You made me.
00:15:19 Say Whitney, you need to wake up and shake up.
00:15:21 Oh, gosh, I know.
00:15:22 I'm up now.
00:15:22 I'm up now.
00:15:23 But how is the Carnival treating you all?
00:15:25 I know that in 2024, Marlon and Ryan and myself,
00:15:29 we were discussing where the Carnival season started off.
00:15:32 I don't know if you all feel the same way,
00:15:34 but what are your thoughts?
00:15:36 I mean, Freetown was our plan, you know?
00:15:38 We have our show that we focused on,
00:15:40 as well as a few other things.
00:15:42 So the truth is that many times for artists,
00:15:45 it's a matter of waiting for promoters to say, hey, or nay,
00:15:48 or for the audience to say, hey, or nay,
00:15:52 they like your song or not.
00:15:53 It has to be beyond that, right?
00:15:54 It has to be beyond that.
00:15:55 We're creating something that is beyond the Carnival season
00:15:59 itself.
00:16:00 So yes, it's been a weird season.
00:16:02 But we're weird, too.
00:16:03 We're weirder than the season.
00:16:04 But what do you think makes it feel so weird this year?
00:16:07 Even though because we have had many short seasons already,
00:16:10 Lou, but this year just seems--
00:16:13 everybody's just saying it feels strange.
00:16:15 Yeah, I was going to say, yes, it is a short season,
00:16:18 but it's also a distracting season.
00:16:20 Because a lot happening in the world, too.
00:16:23 Like global conflicts happening, economic constraints

00:48:59 - The season is seasoning, man.
00:49:00 I'm great.
00:49:01 I'm busy every weekend.
00:49:03 - But we appreciate that
00:49:04 because you realize how the season is already short,
00:49:06 this, and what is happening is that the climate
00:49:09 is a different one for 2024,
00:49:12 but you're still able to produce your music
00:49:14 and put it out there.
00:49:16 - Always, always.
00:49:16 People say this is a conversation
00:49:19 before where the season is kind of strange.
00:49:20 This is a short season,
00:49:22 and it's a lot of music to consume.
00:49:24 And whenever there's a lot of music to consume,
00:49:25 you always be kind of comfortable now, but you know.
00:49:28 - But you're making sure that in the madness
00:49:31 of this carnival that you also contribute.
00:49:34 - Of course.
00:49:35 - Now, Ryan mentioned your contribution every year
00:49:37 to the music and staying consistent.
00:49:39 How does that work for you?
00:49:40 How are you able to evolve
00:49:42 when it comes to the sound of the music
00:49:44 'cause it changes almost,
00:49:45 if not every year, at least every five years,
00:49:48 but how do you remain relevant and in the mix of things?
00:49:51 - Well, you keep to the gong, you know what I mean?
00:49:53 A lot of different producers.
00:49:54 This year, I went back to Red Boys
00:49:56 who had produced my song from 2016.
00:49:58 If it's too windy bush here, so I went back to Red Boys,
00:50:01 and I write my own music, so it's easy for me.
00:50:03 I just take it from topics that's a wrong experience.
00:50:06 So you always keep your ears to the gong and you'll be okay.
00:50:08 - But base, one question,
00:50:10 because yes, you have been around for a while.
00:50:13 Let's look at the progression of the music
00:50:15 because as you and I know, many years ago,
00:50:19 while soca has been around for so long,
00:50:22 but a lot of young people
00:50:24 never really gravitated towards it.
00:50:27 And I think that over the years,
00:50:28 we have seen so many, hundreds, thousands,
00:50:32 tens of thousands of young people
00:50:34 gravitate towards this soca music.
00:50:37 - Of course, of course.
00:50:38 - Let's look at the progression.
00:50:39 How do you see it?
00:50:39 - Well, that's actually why I started doing soca.
00:50:41 When I first was a DJ,
00:50:44 there was a lot of dancers playing
00:50:45 and I was encouraged, "Why don't you do the soca?"
00:50:47 Because back in my time,
00:50:48 there was the Iowa George and the Super Blue
00:50:50 and the Shadow and Ronnie and stuff.
00:50:52 So it was so told to me,
00:50:52 "Look, if a young guy like you do it,
00:50:54 "maybe the youths would gravitate to it."
00:50:55 Back in those times, it was only like Marsha Montano,
00:50:58 Melody Hudson.
00:50:59 And then when I started doing it,
00:51:00 then after came the KMCs, the Bungies.
00:51:02 Of course, you may not know,
00:51:03 I wrote "Distressful Song" on the pick to rhythm,
00:51:06 that sort of thing, right?
00:51:07 But I mean, the music has always been
00:51:09 gravitating to the youths.
00:51:10 We just have to give it to them.
00:51:11 Start from school.
00:51:12 Once you start from the gong, start from home,
00:51:14 they're gonna love it.
00:51:16 - Now, with regards to you being involved
00:51:18 in the entertainment business,
00:51:20 how do you separate the arts?
00:51:22 Because as an announcer, you have to be objective and fair
00:51:25 and of course, in a way that is not biased
00:51:29 and also separate the music side of it.
00:51:32 How are you able to do those two things?
00:51:34 - I think being a DJ and actual DJ helps me
00:51:36 because there are a lot of songs that,
00:51:38 like people seen as a strange kind of,
00:51:39 but I think it's an underdog kind of,
00:51:41 but there are a lot of good songs that we do here
00:51:43 that I would take a chance to play, right?
00:51:45 For example, KMC "Jump In."
00:51:47 For example, "Ultimate Reject Sound,"
00:51:50 you know, the unforgettable feeling.
00:51:51 Ricky Jai has a great song called "Homesick,"
00:51:54 which a lot of people who are outside of Trinidad
00:51:56 would gravitate to.
00:51:57 So I always keep, like I say,
00:51:59 being here in the city, going up to DJ,
00:52:01 I always have that ear for good music
00:52:03 and I always try to give people a fair chance, balance.
00:52:06 - So what is happening for 2024 when it comes to theater?
00:52:09 - Well, hey, look it right here.
00:52:10 - Let me see it.
00:52:11 - It's the weekend, you know?
00:52:12 - It is that.
00:52:13 - It's the weekend.
00:52:14 - It is that.
00:52:15 And thank you, please.
00:52:16 - You know?
00:52:17 - And let me tell you this, right?
00:52:17 - Yeah.
00:52:18 - Seeing it is the weekend.
00:52:19 - It's the weekend, yeah.
00:52:20 - It's a pay weekend.
00:52:21 - That's, ooh, money to spend.
00:52:23 - Money to spend.
00:52:24 - That's right.
00:52:25 - We just saying that make sure when you're spending money,
00:52:28 you have money to pull it through.
00:52:30 Don't get hyper.
00:52:31 - 'Cause you know January is the longest month.
00:52:33 - Listen, you're telling me,
00:52:35 and it is still continuing after we get paid this weekend.
00:52:38 But just make sure that you have an enjoyable weekend.
00:52:40 We don't want to stick,
00:52:41 we want the energy to go up.
00:52:43 The ladies are here representing.
00:52:44 - Watch the ladies.
00:52:45 - They look beautiful, right?
00:52:46 - They look great.
00:52:47 - We have the best woman in the world
00:52:48 come from Trinidad and Tobago.
00:52:49 - Oh my, tell them, tell them.
00:52:49 - You can't deny that at all.
00:52:51 - That's right.
00:52:52 - So, Third Base, it's your time.
00:52:53 Take it away, let's set the energy up.
00:52:55 We're live on TV6, Red 9, 6, 7.
00:52:57 Third Base is in the building.
00:52:59 Let's get into it.
00:52:59 - Let me start with foundation.

00:53:21 All the way, yo.
00:53:22 Well, this one is called Monday morning.

01:09:49 Throughout the morning, we have been providing a real good entertainment for you,
01:09:54 and we are going to take the energy up another notch.
01:09:58 The last time this gentleman was here, Yankee Boy, Yankee Boy, and he has a song, "I Get Big."
01:10:06 The last time my eye got big.
01:10:09 It was the last time we saw you.
01:10:10 Everyone's eyes got big. Yankee Boy, come in.
01:10:14 Yeah? Yankee? Good to have you here. Good to have you here.
01:10:20 How is the season been going?
01:10:21 Everything's going good for now, man. Can't complain, you know?
01:10:24 Yeah, man. Better than I expected.
01:10:26 You know, bro, if it's worth it, right, of course, you know, we share a relationship,
01:10:29 and we share a musical relationship.
01:10:32 And we speak from time to time about your success, right?
01:10:38 In and outside of music, you found a way to maneuver business and using your talent to push yourself forward.
01:10:47 Push myself forward.
01:10:48 So, I want you to make up your business first of all, and then we'll talk about the music.
01:10:51 All right. So, Uncle Yankee Pepper Sauce, you know, the exotic.
01:10:55 I want to be the Gucci and the Versace of pepper sauce.
01:10:57 The Versace of pepper sauce?
01:10:58 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:10:59 The Gucci and the Versace.
01:11:00 The Gucci and the Versace, you know.
01:11:01 Whitney's saying, "Yeah, that tastes good."
01:11:05 Whitney endorse it.
01:11:06 Yeah, man. Talking about watermelon, passion fruit, avocado, pineapple, different flavors.
01:11:12 Bad, bad, bad.
01:11:13 Self-praise is no praise, my poor as Gary is.
01:11:15 But that is our recommendation, too.
01:11:17 But this is a business in New York, right?
01:11:19 Yes, yes. And I actually get contract in all city stores, like any city stores.
01:11:27 How long has the business been around?
01:11:28 I would say now maybe two years and something during COVID.
01:11:31 You opened COVID?
01:11:32 Yeah, I opened COVID. If it wasn't for COVID, that would have never happened.
01:11:36 A lot of things happened during COVID, you know.
01:11:38 And I must say, like, sometimes that might have been my destiny because my last name is Heath.
01:11:42 Correct.
01:11:43 So, you know, I can't explain it.
01:11:45 Oh, really?
01:11:46 It was done written. Yeah, yeah.
01:11:48 So, you have managed to open a business and still stay relevant.
01:11:54 And still stay relevant. Yeah, yeah.
01:11:56 The song right now you have.
01:11:57 Yeah.
01:11:58 You work very hard, eh? You work very hard on the social media.
01:12:02 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Still working, still working.
01:12:04 But social media has become an integral part in our culture and how we get our message across as well.
01:12:10 Right. And for me, you know, it's just entertainment.
01:12:13 You know, just having fun and just love what you're doing.
01:12:16 You know, just for the fun of it.
01:12:18 Yeah, just bring humor. And it's just reality.
01:12:21 Yeah, and that has always been an integral part of Yankee Boys music.
01:12:24 That part of humor, right?
01:12:26 Yeah, yeah.
01:12:27 Just to tell our viewers and our listeners this morning that we are joined by the Masked Readers of Madagascar and also Exusia Mask.
01:12:35 Chiny, it's over to you and Yankee Boy.
