00:00 I met Samboy when I played for San Miguel.
00:05 I really got to know what kind of person Samboy is. He's a very nice guy.
00:10 In fact, when I got traded to San Miguel from Pure Food,
00:15 he was one of the first people to welcome me to the San Miguel team.
00:20 I think it was his last year playing in '97.
00:24 It was my first year in San Miguel.
00:27 I will never forget that.
00:29 Did he influence you in basketball?
00:34 Sam is a big influence.
00:37 He was the one who welcomed me to San Miguel before I got traded.
00:44 Of course, the veterans were there.
00:49 Alan, Hector Bong Alvarez, they were there.
00:55 It was a big thing for a new player to get in because the veterans were welcoming him.
01:02 Samboy was one of the first people to welcome me.
01:06 Of course, Samboy has a great sense of humor.
01:15 He's always funny.
01:18 We were always fooled by him.
01:21 That's what people don't see in him.
01:25 But Sam has a great sense of humor.
01:28 We call him Papa Sam because of his respect for us veterans.
01:33 He has a great sense of humor.
01:36 He's always kind.
01:38 He always greets us.
01:40 Even after playing, when we all retired, he always greets us.
01:46 "How are you? How's your family?"
01:49 We see each other.
01:51 What are your favorite memories with your father?
01:55 My favorite was him always supporting me in my competitions.
02:00 When I was young, I would join AAK Milo tournaments.
02:05 He was just a local in SMOs.
02:08 But he would always support me and cheer for me.
02:11 Even if I lost, he was still proud of me.
02:15 He's very proud of everything I do.
02:19 That's why I do everything for him and with him in mind.
02:23 What are the things you learned from him?
02:29 He always lived by example.
02:32 He's a very hardworking athlete.
02:35 He'd always be there before training.
02:37 He'd always be the last one to leave.
02:39 Even if he was the first one to leave.
02:41 I just tried to be like him.
02:43 I'd spend the extra hours.
02:45 He never trained like a superstar.
02:47 Even if he was a superstar.
02:49 I learned his work ethic.
02:55 His hunger to win.
02:57 Most of all, his humility and being a good person.
03:03 I'm proud of him.
03:05 I'm proud of him.
03:07 I'm proud of him.
03:09 I'm proud of him.
03:11 I'm proud of him.
