A US warship shot down a suspected Houthi drone in the Red Sea on Wednesday that was heading "directly" at the USS Mason warship, according to a US official. The Mason shot down the drone while responding to reports that Houthis were attacking a commercial tanker vessel in the area using skiffs and firing two missiles that missed. On Monday, an anti-ship cruise missile fired from a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen struck another commercial vessel in the Red Sea, causing a fire but no casualties. Officials are still assessing whether the USS Mason was the actual target of the drone, but warships generally shoot down any incoming threats in self-defense.
