00:00 Society of Dishnu, a movie by J.A. Bayona is all set to make its OTT release on Netflix
00:07 in January 2024. This story will recall the heart-touching experience from 1972's
00:15 Andes plane crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 carrying rugby players.
00:22 This incident is said to be the greatest survival story of all time and there is a movie and book
00:29 Alive depicting the entire 72-day survival of 16 players. Now you must have been thinking that if
00:36 there is already a movie based on this incident, why is there a need for another movie based on
00:43 the same? Alive, written by Pierce Fall and later filmed by Frank Marshall, was renowned in the
00:52 Spanish-speaking world. The book explores the idea of cannibalism and in the movie too, the
00:59 filmmaker has put every wing of the story that he could. He focused on Nando Parado and Roberto
01:06 Canessa, the two legends who made the rescue possible. But Society of Dishnu is slightly
01:13 different. This book by Pablo Versi has a personal touch to it. As one of the survivors, Nando Parado
01:20 was his classmate. When director J.A. Bayona read this book, he was fascinated with the story
01:27 because there was a lot more to it than what he read in Alive. And the spiritual tone of author
01:33 was so convincing that he decided to film it. He gained the legal rights to the book for filming.
01:39 The USP of this film is that the narrator of the story is a character named Numo who is dead. So
01:47 we can say that this Society of Dishnu is a story of the Numa, which completely goes against the
01:54 core survival of the fittest. In those 72 days, Numa never kept anything for himself and he did
02:01 his best for others. He later died 12 days before the rescue. The author and director had a good
02:07 conversation with Numa's close friends and family to bring this spiritual and unique factor to the
02:14 film. The film has a more clear emphasis on the mystery of the Pablo Versi book, which will have
02:20 its theatrical release in Uruguay on December 13 and on January 4, 2024 on Netflix.
