Hello there, Lee Sobot at the Yorkshire Evening Post here from Ellen Road, a freezing Ellen
00:07
Road, even colder than it was the other night to be honest, where Leeds United have recorded
00:11
a 3-2 victory against Middlesbrough, a thrilling victory which has made it seven wins in succession
00:17
here at Ellen Road and a slice of history really. That's the first time Leeds have done
00:21
that in the top two divisions since all the way back in 1999 under David O'Leary, also
00:26
achieved in 2009 in League One, but that really does take some doing and you've got to say
00:31
you would hope that would be the foundation for promotion obviously. Leeds are still playing
00:36
catch-up with the top two, the top four all won today so it's pretty much as you were,
00:40
but that, make no mistake about it, was a very, very important victory because you don't
00:43
want to be losing any more ground and also Middlesbrough obviously had a very bad start
00:48
to the season. There is no doubt they're a very, very good side who might well be in
00:53
the mix, top six mix by the end of the season and who knows, it could even end in promotion
00:57
for them. A thrilling game, I think most people thought they'd gone back in time to Wednesday
01:01
evening at the start of this game because yet again there was very, very early goals
01:04
and a just chaotic, dramatic start. Leeds 1-0 down, Emmanuel Atelathe who really could
01:10
have scored four or even five for Borough, he had so many chances in the first half,
01:14
in the end he walked away with a brace, but he put Borough 1-0 up and a tap down the left-hand
01:18
side turned in past Archie Gray. Archie was brilliant, I thought he'd probably lead as
01:23
a best player, but that was like the one moment where he was beaten really to put them 1-0
01:27
up. Then within five minutes Leeds were 2-1 up themselves and it's quite funny because
01:31
both goals came from two wingers who were probably the two of the smallest men on the
01:34
pitch in Dan James and Chrysanthia Somerville, they both got up well to head home after crosses
01:39
from the two wingers, sorry the two full-backs in Sam Byram and Archie Gray. So that was
01:43
2-1, Emmanuel Atelathe had another brilliant chance for Borough, he missed some very good
01:50
chances and that came to haunt them back when Leeds went 3-1 up for the penalty spot, clinical
01:55
penalty from Joel Perrault, that's 8-8 penalties, keeper went the right way but sheer power
02:00
made sure that one went home. So that was 3-1 and not the way to victory you would think,
02:04
but then 3-2, that man again, Atelathe with a header from a corner to make it 3-2 at the
02:12
interval. So obviously that's the way the game stayed, quite often you have games like
02:17
that where there's a flurry of goals in the first half and then you don't get any after
02:20
the break at all, but there certainly could have been, there was plenty more chances after
02:23
the break and in the end the most dramatic thing was a red card for Middlesbrough, a
02:27
second booking, there was just yellow cards throughout the game really and you kind of
02:31
felt that was always going to happen. But in the end Leeds had enough to hold on to
02:34
the victory for a 3-2 win here and make it as I say, seven wins in succession here at
02:39
Ellen Road. Two away games now on the agenda for Leeds, Blackburn away followed by Sunderland
02:43
away, they'll all be difficult games but the Wade record does need improving, but obviously
02:48
they're playing well, attacking fantastically well, Sturling could do with taking more chances,
02:52
yes there were a few bad moments at the back but they got the job done, 3-2, another thriller
02:57
and seven wins in a row here at Ellen Road.
