00:00 Paris is already the most visited city in the world and an extra 3 million
00:05 tourists are expected during the Olympic and Paralympic Games next summer.
00:08 A huge challenge for the transport system. Extra metros, trains, trams and buses
00:13 will be running and new lines will be opening but that's expensive.
00:17 So the price of the ticket is being doubled from 2 euros 10 to 4 euros for
00:22 the duration of the games. While the cost of a one-week unlimited pass will go
00:25 from 30 to 70 euro. The transport users union says that's prohibitively
00:30 expensive but the regional government has reassured residents the cost of
00:34 their monthly passes won't go up.
00:36 It's the real price and there's no way everyday commuters from the Paris region
00:42 should pay for that. It's natural that the Olympic visitors pay the real price
00:45 of reinforcing public transport during the games. It's the price they pay for
00:49 the success of these games. Last week the mayor of Paris came under fire after she
00:54 warned that improvements to the public transport system wouldn't be ready in
00:57 time for the games. The transport minister says they will.
01:01 We have just over 200 days left to complete the work. I want to pay tribute
01:06 to all those who deserve to be encouraged rather than criticized. The
01:10 teams, the public services, the French companies that are making this happen by
01:14 rolling up their sleeves and working like crazy and will be ready thanks to
01:18 their commitment. The minister is putting what he calls hardcore
01:22 restrictions on cars in the city. Motorized vehicles will be banned from
01:26 areas close to Olympic venues except for residents and a few other exceptions but
01:31 it seems most Parisians just want to avoid the hassle. A poll published
01:35 earlier this month revealed that more than half of Parisians want to leave
01:38 town during the festivities.
