00:00Fears of an occupation in southern Lebanon are very, very real.
00:06The people who are now being displaced are often being displaced now for the second or third time since 2024.
00:13Many Lebanese people I've been speaking to have told me that they feel like history is just repeating itself over
00:19and over again.
00:20Because let's not forget, between 1982 and 2000, the Israelis occupied about a third of Lebanon,
00:29and that occupation is what gave birth to Hezbollah in the first place.
00:34Now the Israeli authorities have issued evacuation orders for about a fifth of the country in the south.
00:42Around 20% of Lebanese are under these evacuation orders.
00:45And the Israeli authorities have said that anyone who goes down to the south is putting their life in danger.
00:53Now analysts are also warning that similar strategies are being used to the ones that have been used in Gaza.
01:01Now the Israelis have been saying that they want to put in place this buffer zone, this security zone,
01:06that they will not leave until Israelis in the north feel safe.
01:10But those terms are very vague.
01:12And many are terrified that this permanent evacuation, this temporary evacuation, will become very permanent.
01:19Now analysts have been warning also that the attempt is really to isolate people in the south,
01:25to make their life unbearable there, so that they are forced to leave.
01:28This is evident in the fact that a lot of the bridges over the Litani River have been bombed.
01:35For example, around 150,000 people are now isolated, according to the UN.
01:40It appears that the aim of the Israelis is to block aid from coming in, to block food and water.
01:46They've also been targeting health facilities, health workers, to really try and push people out,
01:53to not give them a choice at all in the matter.
