PM: Net migration too high and needs be brought down

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak says the level of net migration is "too high" and the government will work to bring it down to a "more sustainable" level, including cracking down on abuses of the system. 00:00 I'm very clear that the levels of net migration are too high. They need to come down to more
00:15 sustainable levels. It's encouraging that the Office for National Statistics last week
00:19 did say that the numbers are already slowing but we need to do more. I've already taken
00:23 action to tighten the number of dependents that students can bring when they come and
00:28 study here. We've seen a very sharp rise in those numbers. And that measure that I took
00:32 represents the single biggest measure to bring down legal migration that anyone's ever taken.
00:37 But of course as we need to do more we'll look at that and where there are abuses of
00:40 the system we will of course act on that because the levels do need to come down. They are
00:44 too high.
