00:00 Women supporting women. One startup is making it happen.
00:03 Pinay Grill Boss has launched its online platform dedicated to inspire and educate Filipinas on leadership, entrepreneurship, and more.
00:11 To discuss more about the courses and the workshops that they offer, we have with us Pinay Grill Boss founder and CEO, Tina de Guzman.
00:17 Welcome to New Day. Ma'am, good morning.
00:19 Thank you so much. Good morning.
00:21 It's such a pleasure to have you.
00:22 Let's talk about Pinay Grill Boss.
00:25 It started with podcasts and it's developed from there.
00:30 What do you guys usually talk about? What do you tackle?
00:33 We talk about empowering women.
00:36 So in the Philippines, there are 50 million women who are online, on Facebook, and interested in entrepreneurship.
00:47 So it could be somebody like me, a professional, but is looking for a side hustle.
00:52 It could be the mom at home who is looking to find extra income.
00:56 So we talk about barriers and breaking those barriers.
01:01 The spine is a push towards independent entrepreneurship and having an understanding of business and finance and such things.
01:09 But you also tackle life lessons, wellness, mental health, and it's a very holistic approach.
01:16 Yes, it's true.
01:17 Do you see that as separate departments or do all of these things make up a Pinay Grill Boss?
01:24 All of those things make up a whole.
01:27 So you can't pour from an empty cup.
01:29 So wellness, mental health, all of it become part of being a Pinay Grill Boss.
01:34 There you go.
01:35 Well, from there, it sort of has snowballed and developed into this academy, to this series of workshops or learning sessions.
01:42 What is the objective there?
01:44 I mean, like you said, you want to empower Pinay Grill Bosses to sort of take it to the next level.
01:51 In terms of, I don't know, a mission statement, what would it be?
01:54 Okay, so it came about because me and my friends, we are all entrepreneurs and we are all professionals.
02:01 And we found ourselves enrolling in so many courses abroad.
02:06 And they're so expensive, like 25,000 pesos in one workshop.
02:09 I think I know the ones you're talking about.
02:12 I'm not going to mention.
02:13 But those who actually need so many of the essential skills, the mindset, et cetera, 25,000 is steep.
02:23 Yeah, absolutely.
02:24 So we wanted to, the mission is to bring the lessons to those who need it the most and also to tap Filipino mentors.
02:32 Because what we found is that what's available out there are not made by Filipinos.
02:37 And so the examples are not Filipinos.
02:40 I mean, the context is not Filipino.
02:42 And so we came up with a platform where Filipinos can teach fellow Filipinos.
02:48 You bring up a great point.
02:49 I mean, our culture is unique and our situation and the way things are done here are unique and quite different.
02:57 And we do need learning sessions, workshops, sessions from masters to learn techniques on how to tackle these things and take it to the next step in the context of our Filipino landscape.
03:10 Right.
03:11 Are the sessions live?
03:12 Are they downloadable?
03:13 It's on demand.
03:14 Yeah.
03:15 How does it work?
03:16 They get one-year access.
03:18 So it's very affordable, very accessible.
03:21 It's something that, it costs like a merienda.
03:25 OK.
03:25 So if you are a working student or you're starting in your career or you're a stay-at-home mom, it's something that you can really afford.
03:35 And instead of doom-scrolling, you can actually spend your time learning something and using that to earn extra income.
03:43 OK.
03:44 Is it, I don't know, is it a long course?
03:47 Are there shorter courses?
03:48 About an hour.
03:49 In terms of the length, I mean, is it a year-long course?
03:53 Is it a month-long?
03:54 Can you pick and choose?
03:55 Yes.
03:56 So they get one-year access to any of the courses that they enroll in.
04:00 They can also choose to get a bundle.
04:03 Right.
04:03 So for example, if they want to start a business, they can choose a bundle that is business registration, Adulting 101, and taxation.
04:10 Right.
04:11 So they get to understand all of the moving parts of a business.
04:14 Well, I don't even think you need to be a Pinay Girl boss to learn from this.
04:17 I think I would benefit greatly from Adulting 101.
04:21 It sounds pretty good.
04:22 I know.
04:23 Like, I'm a lawyer.
04:24 Yeah.
04:24 But when I was listening to our mentor, she was talking about PhilHealth and SSS.
04:28 Yeah.
04:28 And I was like, OK, I don't take advantage of all of those.
04:32 And neither do I fully understand.
04:34 I know, right?
04:35 So you should enroll.
04:36 Absolutely.
04:36 I'll give you a course pass.
04:37 OK.
04:37 Sounds good to me.
04:38 Sounds good to me.
04:39 So for those who are interested, because I'm sold on the idea, and I know a lot of people would be, too, based on what we're seeing on screen and based on our discussion, how can we sort of--
04:49 Get access.
04:50 Get access.
04:50 OK.
04:51 So they can just look for us.
04:52 We are Pinay Girl Boss on all platforms.
04:55 We are on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube.
04:57 And we have a very nice website.
04:59 It's pinaygirlboss.com.
05:01 And I'm going to gift you with a course pass.
05:04 So this is something that people can give.
05:07 So it's like give the gift of learning.
05:09 Perfect for the Christmas season as well.
05:11 All right.
05:12 Everything's here.
05:12 There's a QR code.
05:14 You can choose which course to give.
05:17 Well, Pinay Girl Boss is for Pinay Girl Boss.
05:20 Excellent idea there, Tina.
05:22 Thank you so much for joining us here on New Day.
05:24 Thank you.
05:24 Thank you so much.
