00:00 Smoke and flames blew through the air in this Chapman Street
00:04 as neighbours spilled out of their homes to watch.
00:07 I heard the alarms going off and I came outside
00:10 and I saw that there were flames coming out of the roof.
00:14 A morning walker on this grassy hill
00:16 spotted the fire on Beaumont Close just after 8am.
00:20 And managed to call triple zero, which is why they were here so quickly.
00:24 Once on scene, it took firefighters around an hour
00:29 to get the fire under control.
00:31 Police went door to door seeking witnesses
00:33 and information about the occupants of the house.
00:36 They had to reveal the exact cause of the fire
00:38 because they've had to wait for what remains of the building
00:41 to cool down before entering.
00:43 But they have confirmed the fire is being treated as suspicious
00:46 and that the house sustained significant damage
00:48 after a large section of the roof caved in.
00:51 Paramedics were also called to the scene
00:53 but no-one was inside the house at the time.
00:55 Neighbours say it's been a rental property for several years.
00:58 Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
