Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03
Residents are being urged to help shape
00:05
how Derbyshire County Council manages its finances
00:08
after the authority announced
00:09
a multi-million pound budget deficit.
00:12
The Cash Strap Council has already announced
00:14
it will stop all non-essential spending
00:17
and implement a hiring freeze
00:18
due to a forecasted overspend of its budget
00:21
of 46 million pounds.
00:23
Residents will now be able to have their say
00:25
on how the council could save money
00:27
or raise additional revenue
00:29
as part of the annual Your Council, Your Voice survey.
00:33
Derbyshire County Council leader Barry Lewis said,
00:35
"We are all aware of the current economic difficulties
00:38
"and the challenges that this brings
00:40
"will affect the council as much as they are affecting
00:42
"households and businesses across Derbyshire."
00:45
Residents are now being asked for their views
00:48
on where they think the council should prioritise spending,
00:51
how satisfied they are with the council services,
00:53
and which ones are the most important to them and why.
00:58
A holistic centre located
01:00
at the former Staveley Cemetery Chapel
01:02
has welcomed its first customers.
01:04
It comes after a planning application
01:06
to change the use of the chapel
01:07
to allow community gatherings, events,
01:09
fitness activities and services
01:11
was approved by the Borough Council in January this year.
01:15
The Grade II building in the middle of the cemetery
01:17
in Incasill Road, Staveley dates back to the 1880s
01:21
and is listed as one of the council's heritage assets.
01:24
The newly opened centre currently offers various classes
01:27
including yoga, dance circ, trapeze classes,
01:31
and youth circus classes.
