The conflict in Gaza is a wildfire that could spread across the region, U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths said on Thursday (Nov 9), adding that allowing the situation to continue in the enclave would be a "travesty."

00:07 War indeed is a virus that always wants to expand.
00:13 And the current conflict is a wildfire that could consume the region,
00:17 that could spread, and that we will think these have been the good days
00:22 when we see what may happen tomorrow.
00:26 The United Nations cannot be part of a unilateral proposal
00:31 to push hundreds of thousands of desperate civilians in Gaza
00:36 into so-called safe zones.
00:39 We cannot be part of this.
00:41 It is cessation of fighting, a silencing of the guns for humanitarian purposes.
00:49 There's been a lot of discussion about the value of pauses,
00:51 and I'm not one to deny the value of pauses,
00:55 but that is not the same as a ceasefire, as you mentioned also, Mr President,
01:00 which provides a sense of continuity to allow precisely for the revival of services,
01:09 the entry of private sector, and the possibility of the people of Gaza
01:13 to breathe and consider that they will have a future.
01:17 But it actually is imperative, also.
