Steve Saleen talks about the origins of the idea for the Parnelli Jones Saleen Mustang...
Transcript
00:00 When he came down to visit us, he showed up and he had all these pictures of his original
00:10 Trans Am car.
00:11 And then he also had some pictures of a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang that he was restoring.
00:17 And he says that that wasn't a lot of fun to actually drive.
00:21 And he was thinking that since the base Mustang looked so much like the Mustangs of yesterday,
00:28 maybe we could do a Saleen version and do a one-off car for him.
00:32 And I kind of said, at first I kind of go, yeah, you know, we certainly could do something
00:36 like that.
00:37 And we typically don't.
00:39 But I could see he was very persistent.
00:42 And we've always had a very good relationship.
00:44 He's driven race cars for us.
00:46 In fact, he helped us win the championship in 1987 with the Saleen Mustangs on their
00:50 first time.
00:52 And so then I got thinking about it.
00:54 And then I went back and I said, you know, we could actually do maybe a special edition
00:58 run of maybe 500.
01:00 And that would be a great tribute to him and to the car.
01:05 And I think it would serve well.
01:07 So we kind of started elaborating on that.
01:10 And what you see today is where we ended up.
