00:00 Alright, here's my Samurai.
00:05 So I took this as partial trade from freelancer Harry Wagner for the Wicked Willys that I
00:12 built a few years ago for JP Magazine.
00:16 Wicked Willys was also on Ultimate Adventure.
00:18 I've just always wanted one of these Suzuki's, but I've never owned one.
00:24 It wasn't running when he traded it to me.
00:28 He did put these take-off race tires, they're Baja TA KR2's.
00:33 They're 35 by 10, 50, 15.
00:37 So kind of a weird size and they're awfully sticky.
00:40 So they should work really well on the trail.
00:43 Needs seats, needs a roll cage.
00:46 I've got some spare parts in there, spare drive line, shock mount.
00:51 I spent a little bit of time and money and got the engine running.
00:55 The Weber was on it, some tired looking old spark plug wires, so I changed those out.
01:00 Put a new cap on it.
01:03 Put another tired old Optima that I had sitting around in there.
01:08 Plugged off a bunch of the vacuum ports just to see if the thing would run.
01:12 It does run.
01:15 I've got the battery disconnected now.
01:17 The suspension is spring over, those are 2.5 inch BDS YJ leaf springs with some sort of
01:27 a conversion kit.
01:28 The name of the company escapes me right now.
01:30 No, I think it's Skies Off Road.
01:34 Skies Off Road design.
01:36 Same thing in the rear, except those are crown replacement YJ four leaf packs I think.
01:45 Yeah, four leaf packs.
01:47 So they're a bit flatter.
01:49 What I'm planning to do is I'm probably going to move those springs up front and then I'm
01:54 going to move these lift springs in the back and run them spring under.
01:58 That will lower it a bit because it's a really tall rig as is.
02:04 I might have to run some taller lift springs in the back, but we'll cross that road when
02:09 we get to it.
02:11 Came with a transfer case back there that has the 6.5 to 1 gears in it.
02:18 It's like freshly rebuilt.
02:21 Came with a cradle too that is a low range off road.
02:27 So just waiting on some bushings, mounts for that and I can put it back in.
02:35 Also came with a Doug Thorley header which is good because this exhaust manifold is cracked
02:41 in the full exhaust system with magnafoil mufflers.
02:48 So yeah, I'm stoked on it.
02:50 I think I'm going to get it to sit down a little bit.
02:52 I like those tires, I'll keep those.
02:55 I like how the front axle is pushed forward.
02:58 The rear axle unfortunately is going to have to come back forward a touch because otherwise
03:03 the axle is going to hit the gas tank.
03:06 They're both Toyota axles, so that's an IFS 8 inch rear that's been narrowed and powder
03:13 coated which is pretty nice and then that's like an 85-ish front Toyota axle.
03:20 So yeah, I'm going to have to push that rear axle forward just a touch to clear the gas
03:23 tank and I'm going to run it spring under which helps deal with axle wrap.
03:29 Then I've got to build a cage, some seat mounts, rocker guards, trim fenders, yada yada yada.
03:36 Should be fun.
03:38 But Harry gave me a bunch of cool parts to go with it.
03:40 I've got a Toyota e-locker rear diff, or diff for the rear.
03:45 The front has a lock right in it and then I think the diff that's currently in there
03:49 is a welded diff.
03:52 But yeah, stoked on it.
03:54 A little 1.3, I might look for a 1.6 or I might swap something else in there, something
04:01 small but something that's a little bit bigger than this thing which is basically a motorcycle
04:05 engine. Bye bye for now!
