Editor in Chief Angus MacKenzie reports on the Nissan Urge Concept from the 2006 Detroit Auto Show...
Transcript
00:00 Here at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show, Nissan unveiled a car we've already had in the pages
00:16 of Motor Trend Magazine, the Nissan Urge.
00:19 What's the Urge all about?
00:20 Well, if you think the Mazda's Miata MX-5 is too much of a girl's car, this is for you.
00:27 It's much more like a racing motorcycle.
00:30 It's pared down, it's got cycle guards, it's got holes in the sides of the doors so you
00:34 can see the road rushing by.
00:36 It has a T-top that's removable so you can get the wind in your hair.
00:40 It has seats for three, although really you wouldn't want to be sitting up back, there's
00:43 not a lot of room.
00:44 Nissan won't say much about the powertrain, other than it's a high-revving four-cylinder
00:48 engine up front under the hood, and it drives the rear wheels, which means great chassis
00:53 balance for real sports car enthusiasts.
00:56 Inside there's electronics, an Xbox game, this really is the car for the PlayStation
01:01 generation.
01:02 Will Nissan build the Urge?
01:04 There's a cadre of people inside Nissan North America who desperately want to make this
01:08 car, but the decision will come down to one man, Carlos Ghosn.
01:12 The Nissan boss says he won't build any car, no matter how good it looks, unless they can
01:17 prove they can make money out of it.
01:19 So that's the biggest challenge the Urge faces.
