00:00 When it comes to improving horsepower and overall drivability in our 4Xs, there are

00:22 all sorts of things we can do to our engine, exhaust, headers, superchargers, but one of

00:27 the easiest and most cost-effective ways is with the addition of an aftermarket performance

00:31 module, sometimes called a chip.

00:33 What it does is it monitors various engine parameters such as coolant temperature, manifold

00:39 pressure and engine RPM, and automatically recalibrates things like spark timing and

00:43 air-fuel ratio to maximize horsepower and overall drivability in a variety of conditions.

00:49 One good thing about these chips is that there are a variety of them out there on the market.

00:52 Whether your engine is stock, modified, whether you're looking to maximize low-end torque

01:08 After disconnecting the battery negative cable, pull the four-stock harness connector off

01:12 the ECM.

01:13 It's located in this truck in the back of the engine bay on the passenger side firewall.

01:17 The module itself has a very simple and straightforward design.

01:20 This is the side here that plugs right directly into the ECM.

01:23 This is the side here that the harness attaches to, and in the middle is the performance chip

01:27 that fine-tunes all your power and torque curves for increased horsepower and firmer

01:31 transmission shift points.

01:32 Next, plug the module into its proper port on the ECM.

01:35 Be sure and check the installation instructions that came with the module to make sure it's

01:39 going into the right connector.

01:40 Next, reattach the harness and the battery negative cable.

01:44 Then start up the vehicle.

01:46 Take a look at your instrument panel.

01:47 If the check engine light comes on, you need to go back and review your installation to

01:50 make sure the harness is correctly installed.

01:53 If not, you're ready to drive off and have fun.
