Tour the Lamborghini Miura presented at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show...
Transcript
00:00 Lamborghini has brought us many wonderful exotic cars over the years.
00:16 Who could forget the Countach or its replacement, the Diablo.
00:20 But the original V12 mid-engine supercar from Lamborghini was called the Miura.
00:26 It was first unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in 1966.
00:30 And in order to commemorate the 40th anniversary of that event, Lamborghini has come up with
00:36 a new aged Miura.
00:37 It is being shown to us here at the North American International Auto Show.
00:42 Again, in concept form, this is not yet a production car.
00:46 But if we take a look at it, there is no question that it recalls the themes of the original
00:51 Miura.
00:52 Now, the formula here is very similar to what Ford has done with the GT.
00:57 It's modernized the original look, taken it up about 10%, 15% in most dimensions, and
01:05 freshened up a lot of the detailing.
01:06 Now, there's no talk so far of a powertrain, but it is our belief Lamborghini would do
01:13 so using the Gallardo's V10, probably pumped up a little bit, perhaps to around 550 horsepower,
01:21 dispensing with the Gallardo's all-wheel drive, and a more simple package of electronics and
01:27 driver controls.
01:29 The original Miura was a raw and visceral sports car.
01:32 Now, of course, everybody wants to know, will Lamborghini build this Miura?
01:37 I think that's part of the reason that it's here at the show, to gather public opinion
01:41 and to see if the customers really would, in fact, line up for it.
01:46 So for now, a concept, but something that we enthusiasts can certainly hope for and
01:51 perhaps look forward to a couple of years down the road.
01:55 From the 2006 North American International Auto Show, I'm Matt Stone.
