00:00 [MUSIC]
00:06 Hey everybody.
00:07 So it's been about four months since we've started making Ignition.
00:10 And we've just been blown away by the response from you guys,
00:13 the views, the likes, the comments, and so on.
00:15 We've learned a lot. We're learning a lot more.
00:17 This tape, for example, keeps my hands from flailing around like crazy while I'm talking.
00:21 This week, we're going to take some time off and show you guys some of the highlights
00:25 and many, many, many of the lowlights from the past four months of filming.
00:29 We hope you enjoy.
00:31 [MUSIC]
00:34 Now, this week on Ignition, we have to be brief.
00:37 I'm sitting in the driver's seat of a Lexus LFA,
00:39 and I wanted to show you guys how the launch control works.
00:42 Now, before you start commenting and complaining that all we did on this week's Ignition
00:45 was do an acceleration run on an LFA, don't worry.
00:48 There's more coming.
00:50 But now back to business.
00:51 So right here, I have two pages printed out from the LFA's owner's manual.
00:55 You can get this on Lexus's website.
00:57 First, the usage restrictions are pretty straightforward.
00:59 Can't use launch control when you have less than 310 miles on the odometer, so on and so forth.
01:04 Here's the thing, though.
01:05 As launch control places a significant load on the vehicle's mechanisms,
01:08 it cannot be used two or more times in succession.
01:11 After using launch control, cruise at a normal speed for approximately 10 minutes
01:15 to allow the vehicle mechanisms to cool down.
01:17 So this thing needs some breaks in between runs.
01:20 Now actually using launch control, it's a nine-step process.
01:24 Step one is to make sure you're seated correctly.
01:26 Step two is to start the engine, which we already have,
01:28 and to hit the brake pedal with all the force you can.
01:31 Hold the brake pedal with your left foot as long as you can.
01:34 Select sport.
01:36 Now we're in sport mode.
01:37 Now you have to put the shift speed to seven, the shift harshness speed, whatever.
01:44 Pull the upshift paddle to engage first.
01:47 Press and hold the downshift paddle for five seconds
01:52 until launch appears on the screen, which we're in now.
01:55 You can let go.
01:57 Hold the gas pedal firmly.
01:59 Revs will build slowly to 4,000 RPM.
02:02 [engine revving]
02:08 And let go of the brake.
02:10 [engine revving]
02:16 This thing makes a wonderful sound.
02:19 Zero to 60, four seconds.
02:22 A quarter mile, 11.9 at 124 miles an hour.
02:27 Now you can see those shifts take their sweet time in happening,
02:32 but this is still a wonderful car.
02:35 That camera?
02:37 Start off with this one, and we're going to do a couple takes.
02:39 Okay.
02:40 All right.
02:42 Three, two--wait, we start with which one?
02:45 This one or that one?
02:46 That one?
02:47 [engine revving]
03:04 Sure, it's made some compromises in the name of fuel economy
03:07 and interior comfort, but these compromises have a car coming.
03:15 Believe it or not, to challenge your needles curvy world is really not that bad.
03:20 [engine revving]
03:25 Get low, get low, get low, get low.
03:29 From the window to the wall, let's reach out there and rock and roll.
03:35 Basketball?
03:36 Yeah, basketball.
03:37 That's what they talk about, right?
03:38 Yeah, exactly, basketball.
03:39 That whole song is about basketball.
03:42 That is a good one.
03:44 That car hit the course.
03:46 Ah, god damn you numbers.
03:49 Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
03:56 And I don't need a jacket.
03:59 [laughing]
04:01 Is this the Mahogany?
04:02 I don't know.
04:03 Oh, whoa.
04:04 Wait, what's your favorite--oh, never mind.
04:07 What's your favorite letter?
04:09 That sounds weird.
04:10 Yeah, that's weird.
04:11 Sounds like Shatner.
04:13 What's your favorite letter?
04:15 She packed my bags last night, pre-flight.
04:18 [laughing]
04:21 Okay.
04:22 Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
04:27 That's what I used to think all day.
04:29 Now, what's your favorite color?
04:31 Color?
04:32 [laughing]
04:34 Tell us below in the comments your favorite color.
04:37 [wind]
04:58 Your cats make too much noise outside.
05:01 [wind]
05:19 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds.
05:22 Go to [bleep] fourth gear.
05:25 [tires screeching]
05:28 Pedal feel is pretty good.
05:29 Best stop we recorded, 112 feet as I put it in reverse.
05:33 [laughing]
05:34 Shifts hoppin'.
05:35 Shifts hoppin'.
05:36 [laughing]
05:37 Shifts hoppin'.
05:38 [laughing]
05:39 Shifts hoppin' all over the place.
05:40 Hey, Drew.
05:41 Shifts hoppin'.
05:42 Shifts hoppin'.
05:43 Sometimes, maybe a little bit, you get the shifts in your ultimate driving mobile.
05:47 It's okay, I can see it.
05:48 I'm half turning.
05:49 Welcome to Hollywood, big time.
05:52 Is this what it's like, Jimmy?
05:53 You were doing?
05:54 Yeah, yeah.
05:55 This is what it's like.
05:56 And here's where it gets tricky.
05:57 You have to apply the brake with your left foot, hold the shifter forward, then apply the throttle.
06:02 Sometimes it doesn't work.
06:04 Like that time.
06:06 [engine revving]
06:11 Like that.
06:12 [laughing]
06:14 [engine revving]
06:16 [music]
06:19 [tires screeching]
06:21 Rubber baby bumpy bumpy.
06:23 Rubber baby bumpy bumpy.
06:24 Rubber baby bumpy bumpy.
06:26 [engine revving]
06:28 Oh, sh*t.
06:30 [laughing]
06:36 I think, I think, Christy, you need to change his pants.
06:40 That's the dramatic effect for the video.
06:42 Yeah, just for you.
06:44 Well, we hope you guys enjoyed that.
06:45 If there's anything you'd like to see in the next few episodes of Ignition, let us know in the comments.
06:49 Up next is a bit of a teaser of what we've been working on and what you can expect to see in the next couple weeks.
06:54 [engine revving]
07:20 [music]
07:21 This is a problem.
07:23 [music]
07:30 Where did you guys go?
07:32 I got a phone call.
07:34 I can't get it.
07:35 [music]
07:38 Can you guys take the tape off now?
07:40 [laughing]
07:42 Ow, Jesus.
07:44 [music]
07:47 Like a band-aid.
07:48 Ow.
07:50 [engine revving]
