We visit this years Fenwicks Christmas Window as the story of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is told along Northumberland Street.

00:00 Fennec's Christmas window has officially opened this year, which means that Christmas has

00:07 started in Newcastle.

00:09 And this is your warning if you don't want the theme to be spoiled, but this year's theme

00:14 is Narnia, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

00:17 This classic tale follows Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy as they discover Narnia through the

00:22 wardrobe.

00:23 The window includes all of the classic scenes from the book, including Edmund's Turkish

00:28 delight that he receives from the White Witch and Aslan taking back Narnia.

00:34 And even Santa Claus pays a visit to Narnia to give the children their gifts to help defeat

00:39 the White Witch.

00:41 Even on a cold morning, people were queuing up to take a look at Fennec's Christmas window

00:45 on its first day of opening.

00:48 But what do the people of Newcastle think about this year's window?

00:51 Yeah, no, I love it.

00:53 I love Narnia and I think it's a nice theme for the children, yeah.

00:58 Good, a good one this time.

01:14 It's really, really good.

01:16 I enjoy looking at it.

01:19 And what do you think of the story?

01:20 Do you like Narnia?

01:21 I like Narnia.

01:22 It's really good.

01:23 What do you think of the theme this year?

01:25 It's really nice.

01:27 It's one of the more interesting ones I've seen, what they've done the past few years

01:31 anyways.

01:32 So it's lovely.

01:33 What do you think of this year's theme?

01:35 Oh, it's amazing.

01:37 The themes are really, really good.

01:41 I read the book myself and I've seen the films, the Chronicles of Narnia.

01:44 They're an amazing film myself, so I can't complain.

01:48 The first animated Christmas window was opened in Fennec's back in 1971 and since then the

01:54 window has brought a lot of festive joy to the city.

01:57 We've seen so many classic stories told, including Treasure Island, The Snowman and The Magic

02:03 of Beatrix Potter.

02:04 And many people, you ask, will still have a favourite window.

02:08 And now the lion and the witch and the wardrobe has joined the list.

02:12 And as people across the North East have visited since the 70s, it has become quite a tradition

02:17 for many families.

02:18 Is it like a tradition to come to Fennec's window?

02:21 Oh, definitely.

02:22 Yes.

02:23 It's a big memory, yes.

02:24 Because I've been coming since I was small.

02:25 Since you were little, yes.

02:26 I used to come with my mum and now I'm bringing my granddaughter.

02:33 Definitely it's a big, big thing.

02:34 You know, the live launch, everyone seems to engage.

02:37 We were excited to find out what it was, so definitely a big thing around the world.

02:40 There's not many windows left in the UK and this is a really, really big one.

02:45 I think Fennec's is associated with Christmas and all the traditions that we've grown up

02:51 with as children in the North East.

02:53 So, definitely.

02:54 Yes, definitely.

02:55 Especially on the weekends when people are off work and off school and stuff like that.

02:58 So, it's like everything for the family to do, isn't it?
