00:00 They're continuing to respond and continuing to investigate who knew what, when, and we
00:06 want to get at the best answer to how can we prevent something like this from happening.
00:11 And that includes why did it happen in the first place?
00:14 And what measures may have been in place that weren't used or were used.
00:20 And that's what we'll get to the bottom of.
00:22 We know that there has been an alarming concern from the law enforcement community that activity
00:27 and information here was ignored.
00:30 And the simple answer is why was that done and are you concerned about that?
00:33 I think those kinds of facts are yet to be determined.
00:36 You're making assumptions.
00:37 I'm not willing to make those assumptions.
00:41 I believe the people of Maine deserve a serious and robust conversation about gun violence
00:48 and public safety at the state and federal levels in the coming weeks.
00:56 To that end, I want to bring together legislative leaders on both sides of the aisle, along
01:02 with public safety officials, public health people, members of the judicial system, advocates
01:11 on all sides, psychiatrists, community members, and others for a thoughtful and comprehensive
01:20 discussion.
01:21 I'm not going to stand here today and tell you that I'm proposing XYZ, but I'm here to
01:25 listen and to work with others, get people around the table as promptly as possible.
01:31 In memory of those we've lost, I'm ordering that all United States and state of Maine
01:36 flags remain lowered through sunset Friday, November 17th.
01:44 That's an additional 18 days to honor each person who was taken from us by this unspeakable
01:52 tragedy.
