Tony Singh hosts exclusive charity dinner

Tony Singh and Alistair Birt raised £21,777 for cancer support charity, Maggie's.

00:00 Hi, I'm Tony Singh. I'm a chef based in Edinburgh.

00:03 I'm here helping Maggie's raise funds for their centres.

00:06 Last night's event and tonight's event is fundraising.

00:10 But it's fundraising done in a different way.

00:12 We looked at what Maggie's does in the heart of their centres,

00:16 with their kitchen tables, getting around food, relaxing people,

00:19 making people feel comfortable.

00:20 And I do a supper club at my house in Edinburgh.

00:23 And me and Andrew got together and we thought this would be fantastic.

00:26 So this is the first time we've taken it outside.

00:29 It's a very intimate dinner at Tomatin Distillery.

00:32 We've teamed up with Kubok and Whiskey.

00:34 We've got in the desserts, they've been phenomenal with us.

00:36 You can't explain it until you're there.

00:38 It's like the supper clubs. What happens at the supper club stays at the supper club.

00:41 So if you want to know more about it, dig deep, give money to the centres

00:45 and come and enjoy what we do because it's great fun.

00:48 My name's Alistair Firth. I'm the senior head pastry chef from Harrods.

00:51 This is the fifth time I've come up to work for Maggie's.

00:54 I've known Andrew for a long time.

00:57 And I've worked with Tony before for another Maggie's event.

01:00 So when he asked me to come up, I said yes.

01:03 I do the sweet stuff.

01:06 So I take off that workload off Tony and his gang.

01:09 And I do all the pastries and desserts and pedifours.

01:13 Great fun working with Tony.

01:15 Always learning something new with him as well.

01:17 So I always keep my eyes open and see what he's doing

01:20 and pick up a few tips for myself.

01:23 I'm Andrew Benjamin. I'm the centre bummeries and manager for Maggie's Highlands.

01:26 Maggie's is obviously a cancer charity that offers practical, social and emotional support

01:30 to anybody living with a cancer diagnosis.

01:33 Here in the Highlands, obviously we reach across the whole of the Highlands,

01:36 whether it be in person here in the centre or via our video programme

01:39 which stretches to every pocket of the Highlands.

01:42 Maggie's Highlands costs over half a million pounds each year to run.

01:46 And we rely almost entirely on public donations to fund this service.

01:50 This year we will probably help people living with a cancer diagnosis

01:54 around about 24,000 times, which is obviously a huge amount.

01:58 But this number is rising each year.

02:01 So obviously to do that fundraising, we have to look at new ways of fundraising, unique ideas.

02:06 Fundraising this year has become, obviously since COVID, very, very hard,

02:10 especially with the cost of living.

02:12 So I think to put on events such as what we've just done

02:15 and we're doing at the moment, is really, really important.

02:19 My name is Julia and I am a Senior Brand Manager at Tomatin Distillery

02:24 and I'm working for Kewbalkan Whiskey.

02:27 And in the past we've worked with Maggie's before

02:30 and we've also worked with Tony before.

02:33 So this was really the best of both worlds, bringing them together.

02:37 So a celebration of food, drink and bringing people together

02:43 but with an overall aim of supporting Maggie's,

02:47 which is a charity that's really important to us.

02:50 This was also really exciting for us because this is the first time

02:53 that we've ever hosted anything like this at our distillery.

02:58 So yeah, it was amazing last night having everyone come to the distillery,

03:03 sitting around a table and just enjoying amazing food by Tony, Alistair

03:10 and then with some great whiskey as well.

03:13 And then doing a little auction at the end.

03:15 And yeah, as the guys were saying, fully sold out both nights

03:20 with an aim of raising hopefully £20,000.

03:23 So it's a great collaboration and we're delighted to be involved.
