00:00William Strangeway of Lincoln Wellington AC with two marathons in his legs already this year
00:07showing normal events and what a stunning performance, the champion for 2026, William Strangeway
00:15William congratulations on winning the walk best marathon, was that the target?
00:21It was targeted to the podium and the second target was to break 220 here
00:26but I didn't realise the course was so hard, you see your football down and I didn't train for it
00:31properly
00:32so I went off a little bit hard maybe for the course and it was a hard way to do
00:38it
00:38but yeah I'm pleased with the run though, really pleased
00:40How did you find your positions?
00:43Not too bad, it's a little bit rainy which I don't like normally
00:47but yeah it's as good as it could be, better have been too far I suppose
00:51Very nice
00:53and how did you find your time?
00:55About five minutes on my pv
00:57but yeah it's a lot harder than I've run before
01:01like you know, even hills wise
01:04especially the downhill, you just get your quads and your hamstrings
01:08and then going up the hills and zaps your energy as well so
01:11yeah I'm really pleased with it though
01:13Is this the first time you've taken part in the city?
01:15Yeah, it's Dom Ness yeah
01:16What inspired you to take part?
01:17Well I've heard it's a good scenic course
01:21and I've always wanted to come to Scotland, my first time in Scotland this is
01:25so I thought I'd put two two together, do a marathon and see the country
01:29and not too far off the course record, are you tempted to come back next year and try and defend
01:33it at all?
01:34Possibly yeah, I'll have to get a bit of training done next year with the hills and things
01:37and prepare for it properly probably and then yeah
01:40Where would you rank this in your career?
01:42Ah it's got to be one of the top
01:43Well I came on with a second in Manchester Marathon this year
01:46so it's up there with that definitely
01:48the first winners in the Marathon
01:51Yeah it's good
