00:29 - Ever since Mazda launched the Miata way back in 1989,
00:33 it's been swimming against the tide.
00:35 In a world obsessed with more and more power,
00:37 bigger brakes, stiffer suspension,
00:39 and ultimately spiraling weight figures,
00:41 the Miata has remained a bastion of purity.
00:44 A car that gives you access to every facet
00:47 of its personality freely
00:49 and teaches you to be a better driver.
00:51 If only it was faster, right?
00:54 Yeah, we love the Miata and its purity,
00:57 but we've long felt a little more power
00:59 to make the chassis shine even brighter.
01:02 Well, the new 2019 Miata might be the answer to our prayers.
01:05 Okay, so 181 horsepower isn't exactly GT2RS worrying,
01:10 but in a car this light, it's enough.
01:12 Enough to feel pretty damn fast on the road,
01:14 but more importantly, enough to allow you
01:16 to push the rear drive chassis to the limit almost at will.
01:20 And when you do, the Mazda is beautifully progressive,
01:23 supremely balanced, and let's face it,
01:25 a hoot to drive around sideways.
01:27 Oh, it also has an amazing manual box, good brakes,
01:30 and feels built to be thrashed half to death
01:33 every day without complaining.
01:35 A Miata recently finished second at Best Driver's Car.
01:38 Who's to say the 2019 model won't go one better?
