00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're taking a look at the most rage inducing levels in
00:13 PlayStation games.
00:15 We'll be prioritizing actual levels over single boss fights.
00:27 Number 10, the tutorial, Driver.
00:35 Normally one should not struggle with a tutorial under any circumstance.
00:40 Even if it's boring, it's still a tutorial.
00:42 You're there to learn the game.
00:45 Well that's the idea that Driver seemed to have forgotten as its tutorial is a full
00:50 on driving exam.
00:52 Not only will you have to learn the car's handling, but also perform various maneuvers
00:57 that you may not even need to utilize all while under a time limit and a strict 3 strike
01:02 collision rule.
01:03 We would expect such demands from a game like Gran Turismo, but Driver?
01:08 Come on!
01:14 Number 9, every turret section, Jak 2.
01:25 For as much as some folks swear by Jak 2, we gotta be honest, the controls have not
01:31 aged well.
01:32 The gunplay can be frustrating to tolerate and it gets aggravating even more when turrets
01:37 come into play.
01:38 We shudder at the mention of a turret section because we know what to expect.
01:43 How are we supposed to shoot at the necessary targets when you're constantly spawning
01:47 in hordes upon hordes of enemies dealing way too much damage?
01:51 There is simply no time to breathe in any of Jak 2's turret sections.
01:56 You just have to hope you're turning fast enough to stop an enemy before they pull their
02:01 triggers.
02:08 Number 8, Mission 18, Invading Hell, Devil May Cry 3, Dante's Awakening.
02:13 We're not including boss fights in this list as there are several other lists covering
02:23 boss fights specifically.
02:25 However, the reason we're including Invading Hell on here is because it's a series of
02:30 boss fights back to back.
02:32 Ask any DMC fan and they will tell you the same thing.
02:36 The bosses in Dante's Awakening can be unfair and frustrating.
02:41 Everyone has their own bosses that are the bane of their existence.
02:45 You really need to just focus and use the devil trigger explosion whenever you can.
02:50 That's the only advice anyone can give.
03:00 Number 7, Hunter's Nightmare, Bloodborne, The Old Hunters.
03:11 Bloodborne was obviously going to show up on this list.
03:14 It's Bloodborne, one of the hardest games to ever be published by Sony itself.
03:18 But even with all the grueling agony you've been through in the base game, everything
03:23 tells in comparison to the DLC expansion.
03:26 The Old Hunters has earned its infamy because of the focus on adding hunters as enemies.
03:32 Basically, you're fighting enemies that play as you would.
03:36 And the red-eyed hunters are extremely aggressive.
03:39 Even players who reached beyond level 120 have voiced their troubles.
03:43 You're going to have to grind to make it out this alive.
03:55 Number 6, Hollow, Twisted Metal 2.
04:05 When it comes to the hardest Twisted Metal levels, most go to the various fights against
04:09 many.
04:10 But we aren't considering boss fights for this list.
04:13 We'd argue Hollow is the hardest of any Twisted Metal level.
04:17 The field of grass and hay gives you almost no place to hide in.
04:21 Sure, you have two windmills, both of which can be blown to hell.
04:25 So again, no place to hide.
04:28 In a one-on-one or a four-player free-for-all, this level isn't bad.
04:33 But when you reach Hollow in the campaign and see that you're facing almost the entire
04:38 cast at once, well, hope you know your codes.
04:49 Number 5, The High Road, Crash Bandicoot.
04:59 The first Crash Bandicoot is known to be the hardest of the original PS1 games.
05:03 When it comes to the hardest levels, though, everyone has their struggles.
05:08 Sunset Vista, Cortex Castle, for us, The High Road.
05:12 Here, your platforming has to be incredibly precise, with some segments requiring perpetual
05:17 motion for you to constantly nail jumps even if the draw distance hasn't fully rendered
05:23 what's ahead.
05:24 In other words, what you have is one long path filled with leaps of faith.
05:29 What's worse is that the N. Sane Trilogy remake accidentally made it harder because
05:34 of the controls and how they modeled Crash.
05:37 So that old rope-walking trick is a lot harder to pull off there than in the original.
05:46 Number 4, Stage 4, Parappa the Rapper.
05:54 It has certainly gotten harder to praise Parappa the Rapper when we all know in the back of
05:59 our minds that the game is far from excellent.
06:02 Exhibit A, Stage 4.
06:04 What made this cooking rap so infamous among players was how it completely screws up the
06:09 timing in its beats.
06:11 No matter when you press the buttons, it is never good enough.
06:15 You are always too early, too late, or just flat out subbed.
06:19 And you know you pressed the buttons at the right time.
06:22 But on this level, the game does not care.
06:25 You can be on point to the ear, but to the game, you might be the worst rapper ever.
06:31 Fried chicken never sounded so tasty before this.
06:40 Number 3, Quadrona, Ratchet and Clank, Size Matters.
06:50 Size matters when your gameplay is unbalanced.
06:54 Many Ratchet and Clank fans have grown to resent size matters on account of just how
06:58 busted the gameplay truly is.
07:00 And it is only more evident when reaching Quadrona.
07:04 Just about every enemy is a bullet sponge with most of them taking about 3 or 4 rockets
07:09 to defeat.
07:10 And your armor gives about as much protection and resistance from enemy fire as a cardboard
07:15 chess plate.
07:16 And even with maxed out weapons, the final level is unforgiving in the most unfair way
07:21 possible.
07:28 Number 2, The First World, Returnal.
07:36 It sounds silly to say the first area of a game is incredibly hard.
07:40 Perhaps more so than a tutorial in some cases.
07:43 However, Returnal is a tough game in general and what makes the first area so difficult
07:48 is the fact that you have nothing.
07:51 You are not as powered as you might have been in your previous run.
07:54 At least when you're in the second or third world, you've got yourself situated with
07:59 guns you like, an alt fire that's useful, and a couple of consumables equipped.
08:04 In the first area, all you have is that pea shooter of a pistol.
08:08 It gets the job done, but it really discourages you from going against the more aggressive
08:13 challenges as you navigate.

08:36 Number 1, Challenge of the Gods.
08:38 Number 10, God of War.
08:45 The Challenge of the Gods is already notorious for its fluctuating difficulty and ridiculous
08:50 concepts, but the worst of these is the final challenge.
08:54 One small platform plus a never-ending wave of Cerberus puppies plus two immortal Satyrs
09:00 to harass you endlessly.
09:02 Had the Satyrs not been given an unblockable grab that can send you over the edge, maybe
09:07 more players would have seen this task through to the end.
09:10 One of our own on the Mojo Plays team tested his might and wound up spending nearly two
09:15 hours trying to beat him.
09:17 He did it, but what did it cost?
09:23 Everything.
