00:00 I was a short king and now I'm a part of the six foot club.
00:03 And I spent $100,000 on limb lengthening surgery.
00:05 They break your bones surgically,
00:07 they cut them and they attach devices
00:09 that extend the bones over time.
00:10 The world is a much different place now that I'm taller.
00:13 When I first did the surgery,
00:15 people said they hope I never walk again,
00:17 but as it grew, it actually started to garner
00:20 a lot of attention from women.
00:22 - I thought we were on the first date,
00:23 you're impressing me.
00:24 - No, no, you're impressing me, I'm six foot.
00:28 I'm Denzel Siggers, I'm 27 years old
00:31 and I spent $100,000 on limb lengthening surgery.
00:34 So the surgery day, they put me under anesthesia
00:37 so I would sleep.
00:37 They break your bones surgically,
00:39 they cut them and they attach devices
00:41 that extend the bones over time.
00:43 When I first woke up, I just asked myself
00:45 a million and one questions.
00:47 I was like, why did I do this surgery?
00:49 I regretted it, I shouldn't have done it.
00:50 I'm in so much pain, I've never felt this kind of pain
00:52 before and is it really worth it?
00:54 And I thought something was wrong
00:56 because I didn't think it was normal
00:57 to feel this amount of pain.
00:58 - Day one.
00:59 - There's a metal rod in my leg
01:01 and then there was an external fixator
01:03 that attaches to the metal rod going through your leg
01:06 so you have both an internal device and an external device.
01:09 It was very shocking.
01:11 It felt unreal to see it attach myself
01:13 'cause I had never seen anything like this before.
01:16 I was actually in a relationship prior to the surgery.
01:19 Once I told her I wanted to go get surgery
01:21 to get taller, to boost my confidence,
01:23 she was completely against it
01:25 and inevitably we end up ending the relationship
01:27 even though she was someone that made a lot of jokes
01:29 about my height herself.
01:30 So she hasn't seen me,
01:32 but she's just seen my social media
01:34 and she's been trying to call,
01:35 she's been trying to make her way back
01:36 but that's somewhere I don't wanna go back to.
01:38 Today I'm actually going on a date for the first time
01:42 since I've had my surgery.
01:43 So it'll be my first date at Six Foot.
01:45 I'm very excited.
01:47 This is an opportunity to get out there
01:48 and really fill out this new version of me,
01:50 like see how he interacts with the world,
01:52 see how he interacts on a date.
01:54 In the world we live in,
01:55 we say don't judge a book by its cover
01:57 but obviously people are judged off their appearance first.
01:59 But I do feel like once I get back into dating,
02:02 my personality will be what carries me in a relationship.
02:05 - Oh, hello.
02:08 How you doing?
02:09 How you doing?
02:10 - Good.
02:11 - Man, hug me too, homie.
02:12 Tell me about yourself.
02:20 What's your social?
02:21 - My social?
02:22 - Yeah.
02:23 - My social media?
02:25 - No, your social security.
02:27 - My social security.
02:28 You a scammer?
02:33 - I didn't say that.
02:33 - Are you just funny?
02:34 - I was just trying to get to know you.
02:35 - Oh.
02:36 - So.
02:37 - What you was trying to do with my social?
02:39 Oh, you trying to put a ring on it that fast?
02:41 I didn't know you was that type of guy.
02:44 I like that.
02:45 I'm just saying my last relationship was two years ago.
02:48 I got high standards and a lot of requirements.
02:50 - I think you found it.
02:52 - Really?
02:54 Okay, why haven't I been on a dating scene?
02:56 I've been very busy.
02:58 But most recently in the last six months,
03:00 as you know, I underwent limb lengthening surgery.
03:02 So.
03:04 - What was that experience like?
03:05 - Probably one of the hardest things I've ever done.
03:08 - Conversation was very good.
03:14 I could see us going on a few more dates,
03:17 getting to know each other a lot more.
03:19 He's gonna call me for sure.
03:21 - It's actually a very fun first date.
03:22 I didn't expect to have as much fun as I did.
03:25 I thought it would be a little bit more nerves
03:27 or something, but everything went great.
03:29 It was a very fun time, very beautiful girl.
03:32 It was nice to step out in the world
03:33 with a lot more confidence than before.
03:35 To be a lot more sure of yourself
03:37 and not wondering what she's thinking,
03:38 but really just be who you are.
03:40 - It is much easier to reach things
03:48 that I struggled with before.
03:50 The world is a much different place now
03:52 that I'm taller, people smile at me everywhere I go.
03:54 I've never had this kind of like reaction
03:56 from people before, and I really enjoy it.
03:59 I've always been very unhappy with my height,
04:02 pretty much my entire life.
04:03 I realized I was short around 15 years old.
04:07 And ever since then, it's kind of weighed on me.
04:09 I tried a lot of different things to make me taller
04:12 or at least appear taller, such as spinal decompression,
04:15 put insoles in my shoes, inversion tables.
04:18 And they would only give me about an inch more.
04:20 As far as my recovery process, I work out every day.
04:23 I'm just restricted in some of my abilities like squatting.
04:26 Recovery takes about six months to a year.
04:29 I'm much further ahead at my current stage
04:31 than most people would be.
04:32 It's only been about two and a half months
04:34 since I completed surgery.
04:36 I can pretty much do everything that I need to do
04:38 for the most part on a normal day-to-day basis.
04:40 So I'm very pleased with where I'm at.
04:42 The surgery has significantly boosted my self-esteem,
04:45 mainly because everything I had to go through
04:47 to get the height, so I appreciate it more.
04:49 But just being home and seeing how the world reacts to me
04:53 at six foot rather than five five
04:55 has been a very amazing experience for me.
04:58 I've always been an outgoing person,
05:00 but now I can just be myself without caring
05:03 what people think or what people have to say.
05:05 I'm me all the time now,
05:06 rather than hiding behind insecurities.
05:10 My boy!
05:14 - Hey, what's up, man?
05:15 - Good to see you.
05:16 - Get over here.
05:18 - Oh, it's good to see you, man.
05:20 - How did you meet Brian?
05:21 - We was getting the same surgery in Turkey together.
05:23 We met in the physiotherapy.
05:26 - Brian, how tall were you before the surgery?
05:28 - I was 183, so just basically six foot.
05:33 - And how tall are you now?
05:34 - It's gonna be over 6'6" right now.
05:37 - Nice.
05:38 - One thing that's kinda hard for me
05:39 is I'm just barely now getting into the phase
05:42 where I'm in a walker.
05:43 You're already at the walking-in-assistant phase.
05:45 - For me, I will honestly have to tell you
05:47 that it's really just being patient,
05:50 but at the same time trusting yourself,
05:51 because since you haven't walked in so long,
05:54 it gets, you're nervous to walk.
05:57 Whenever I'm scared, I just tell myself to trust myself.
06:00 Everything is gonna be okay.
06:02 My father had the worst reaction.
06:04 He just didn't understand why I would do something
06:06 like this to myself.
06:07 He's actually been avoiding me since I've returned home,
06:10 because he thinks I'm taller than him now,
06:12 but my mother has been extremely supportive.
06:14 My brothers have been very supportive.
06:16 They're very excited that I got surgery,
06:18 and it's something that's changed my life overall.
06:20 So initially, when I first did the surgery
06:22 and I started posting it,
06:23 it was a lot of negativity, a lot of hate.
06:26 People called me crazy.
06:27 People called me insane.
06:28 They said they hope I never walk again,
06:30 but as it grew and people saw me
06:32 continue to post my progress,
06:33 a lot of the comments began to change.
06:35 It actually started to garner a lot of attention
06:37 from women telling me how strong I am
06:40 and how a manly was to go through something
06:42 that endured so much pain.
06:44 I want people to take away from this
06:45 is not even just hype,
06:46 but I say do the things that make you happy.
06:48 Don't care what other people think,
06:49 'cause people will judge you
06:50 no matter what you do in life.
06:52 So just do what makes you happy.
06:53 Recovery is taking longer than I realized it would,
06:56 but I have no regrets.
06:57 Like, anything you want in life,
06:59 it comes with a certain price.
07:00 It comes with hard work.
07:02 But once I fully recover,
07:03 I'll be able to enjoy the full benefits of my new hype.
07:06 I would personally not recommend it to just anyone.
07:10 This is something that takes a lot of mental fortitude,
07:12 because there are so many nights that I wanted to quit.
07:15 So I say come as mentally strong as you can.
07:18 It's more mental than it is physical.
07:20 If I could go back in time,
07:21 I would absolutely do it again,
07:22 without a shadow of a doubt.
07:24 (silence)
07:26 (silence)
07:28 (silence)
07:31 (silence)
