00:00 I'll start with the saddest of news.
00:03 We can now update the number of Americans that we know have been killed to 27.
00:11 And the number of unaccounted for stands today at 14.
00:16 We're obviously doing everything we can to support and inform the families.
00:22 Now sadly, five more families have now gotten the worst possible news that any
00:26 family can conceive of getting.
00:29 And we're gonna stay in touch with them as appropriate.
00:32 Same goes for those family members of those who are unaccounted for.
00:36 And by unaccounted for, we mean that we don't know where they are.
00:39 They don't know where they are.
00:40 So we're gonna obviously stay in touch with them as well.
00:42 And certainly we're continuing to work with Israeli officials to make sure that
00:46 we're getting as much context and information as possible that we will
00:49 share with them.
00:50 The President has asked his team to ensure that we are assisting US citizens
00:54 who do want to leave Israel and providing them with a safe means of doing that.
00:58 So beginning tomorrow, the United States government will arrange charter flights
01:02 to provide transportation from Israel to sites in Europe.
01:05 They're still working through some of the details of that to assist US citizens and
01:10 their immediate family members who have for whatever reason not been able
01:15 to provide commercial transit out of the country.
01:19 And I would add that we're also exploring other options to expand the capacity
01:23 of doing this, including exploring whether it's possible to help Americans
01:27 leave by land and by sea.
01:31 >> The Hamas representative gave an interview to Russian television,
01:34 which they said they'd be willing to trade hostages for
01:37 Hamas prisoners in any prisoners, including in the United States.
01:40 And they specifically said the United States has traded prisoners before citing
01:44 the Iran deal that was just made.
01:46 Is that something the United States would consider doing in the case of
01:48 American citizens?
01:49 >> What I will tell you just broadly speaking is we obviously take seriously
01:53 our responsibilities to get Americans held overseas back with their families.
01:57 We have in the past entered into negotiations to do exactly that.
02:02 And we have not foreclosed any option right now in terms of
02:06 these particular hostages.
02:08 Obviously, if their return to their families can be arrived at
02:14 in a peaceful way without additional risk to their lives,
02:20 that is certainly something we would take very, very seriously.
02:23 But there are no intentions, no plans to put American troops on the ground in
02:28 combat.
02:29 >> He hasn't been given any updated plans or options to that effect since Saturday?
02:36 >> There are no plans or intentions to do that.
02:38 So there are no active planning efforts underway to do that.
02:42 And the Israelis have made it clear that they would not welcome that in any event.
02:47 What we're gonna do is make sure, and this is a very capable, small, but very capable
02:50 military and we're going to do everything we can to improve those capabilities.
