'Bob's Burgers' Star John Roberts Is Diving Back Into Music

John Roberts spoke to What's Trending about balancing his music career and voicing Linda Belcher on FOX's 'Bob's Burgers'.

00:12 Roberts, who has been voicing Linda Belcher for over 10 years

00:15 and working on his mom character for even longer, is making his return to music.

00:20 John spoke with What's Trending, sharing that he was in a band in the early 2000s that did well

00:25 and played great venues, but his music took a backseat as he developed his YouTube channel

00:29 and began to shift into voice acting. The Emmy-nominated actor shared how he's

00:33 balancing his schedule as the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike looms in the distance.

00:37 "Well, Bob leaves me a lot of time, even when we are working, to work on other projects,

00:43 because it's voiceover stuff. I am going back into the studio next week with actually Debbie

00:48 Harry and Junior, and we're going to work on some more stuff. And I'll probably just

00:54 keep releasing singles until something sticks and then start to also work on my live show and

01:02 doing something really fun to watch." Roberts' music takes major inspiration from new wave

01:07 music of the 1980s, as well as house music and electronic music that was a part of the 90s rave

01:12 scene. When asked if he thinks his listeners will be able to separate his musical style from his

01:17 distinct vocal role on Bob's Burgers, Roberts said, "I think it is a bit of a challenge sometimes,

01:22 but at the end of the day, I'm just happy people know who I am and that I'm working and people

01:27 enjoy what I'm doing. So there's always going to be a person that's like, 'Oh, sing it like Linda.'
