Transcript
00:00 Friends, good evening. Thank you very much for coming to Millennium Square this evening
00:08 to stand in solidarity with the people of Israel.
00:13 The events that we have all witnessed over the last few days...
00:19 [shouting]
00:23 The events we have witnessed over the last few days are...
00:28 You can hear now? Right, thank you.
00:31 ...are unspeakable.
00:35 Words almost fail us.
00:40 And the more we hear the stories of those who were killed and murdered,
00:47 the massacre in the kibbutz,
00:51 the young people enjoying a music concert
00:55 who were gunned down as they tried to flee.
01:00 This was and is terrorism.
01:06 And that is what we have to call it.
01:09 And at a moment like this, it is very important that the international community,
01:14 the Jewish community of Leeds, all of us, stand together in solidarity
01:21 against the ideology that thinks that any cause in life
01:27 can be advanced by the brutal murder of innocent people,
01:34 unable to defend themselves.
01:38 All of us here long for the day when there will be peace in the Middle East,
01:44 where so many have suffered for so long.
01:48 But what has happened in the last few days will not help bring that about.
01:54 It will push it further away.
01:59 And I know that the people in Israel who are watching vigils around the world
02:05 in support of them, standing in solidarity with their suffering,
02:11 their pain, their hurt, their tears, will appreciate enormously
02:18 the fact that so many of you have come here this evening
02:21 to stand in solidarity with them.
02:25 Thank you very much.
