Pulborough band feature in new Netflix movie

An original new song by Pulborough band Billy Nomates is to feature in a new Netflix film Pain Hustlers coming out on October 27 starring Chris Evans and Emily Blunt.

00:06 be speaking to Tristan Lambeth from Poulbara-based band Billy No-Mates. Now Tristan, you're saying

00:11 that after 28 years, overnight success with the band, you are branching out into a Netflix

00:17 film with big names. We are, we are. It comes out in October, it's called The Pain Hustlers.

00:23 Yeah, and how do you know? We haven't seen it yet, obviously. You're not an original

00:29 songs band, but this is an original song, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. Every so often we sit

00:34 down and write a song, some lyrics come into one of our heads and we just put it to pen

00:39 and paper and then start putting some chords around it. So how did you get from weekend

00:43 gigging to Netflix with Emily Blunt and who was the other one you said? Chris Evans. Chris

00:50 Evans. Chris Evans. Someone I know, I sent him the song some time ago and he picked it

00:55 up and said, yeah, they could use it in a Netflix film. And they told us about nine

00:59 months ago they were going to use it. And as I say, it's coming out next October. We've

01:03 signed our contract and they've got it all and we're just waiting to see what it looks

01:08 like and get paid. And when you say next October, you mean next October? Yeah, next month. Next

01:13 month. Yeah, 2023. And tell me a bit about the song because it sounds like it's a personal

01:18 one to you with lots of references. It is. I basically had the idea of writing down a

01:25 reference to all the artists or songs that I've ever really liked that I can remember

01:29 at the time. So it's got about 30 or 40 different references to Jimi Hendrix, Dire Straits,

01:36 The Clash, The Stones, The Sex Pistols. Give a few examples from the lyrics. You can put

01:43 your fight back to the USSR and put some brown sugar in your tea. The Pistol Punks. I can't

01:51 remember. I can't remember that bit. But there's lots of references. There's lots of them. There's

01:57 lots of references. The Bopping Elf. I've said The Bopping Elf Lives Life on Mars. That's

02:02 a reference to Mark Bowman because his nickname was The Bopping Elf and Life on Mars is obviously

02:07 David Bowie. Yeah. And The Stones reference is brown sugar in there then. Braine was a

02:13 brown sugar in my tea. Fantastic. And what on earth is it going to be like then when

02:17 you gather around Netflix to watch a film with big stars in that fits your music? It'll

02:25 be great. We know when it's going to come up and we know roughly when it's going to

02:30 come up after 25 minutes or whatever. And it'll be fun. We'll get the band around, have

02:37 a few beers and watch it happen. And we should acknowledge this is a co-write with your colleague

02:42 Bob Farrell, isn't it? Yeah, our bass guitarist Bob. He helped me write the music. And we've

02:47 done rehearsals with me and then we run it past the band. Fantastic. But sadly, you're

02:52 not expecting this to change your lives, are you? Sadly, no. We're getting paid. It's not

02:58 enough to buy a Learjet or even a ticket to Los Angeles or California. So no, we won't.

03:03 It's a start maybe, isn't it? But fantastic. You've got to start somewhere. Brilliant.
