Dyno-Testing a Hot Street Buick Small-block
Transcript
00:00 Hi, my name is Bryce Moldby with CP Carrillo.
00:03 Rick Panitton with CP Carrillo.
00:05 Well this is a fabulous Buick 400 engine.
00:08 Let me tell you, it's been a nightmare to put it together and it fought us to the bitter
00:11 end, but we made it here and we're excited that it ran.
00:13 We got it started up and everything worked out, but the main purpose of this build was
00:18 to show the products that we make at CP Carrillo and Rick has a Buick station wagon.
00:22 We thought, hey, we put the motor in when it's all done.
00:25 So it is going to get to use.
00:26 It's not a pretty dino queen, even though the carb does match the valve coverage, which
00:29 is very important when it comes to making horsepower.
00:38 We shortened the rod up in this motor, which is what most Buick guys don't traditionally
00:41 do.
00:42 They run a really long rod, so we figured we'd be completely different and run a short
00:46 rod.
00:47 It's like a super stock piston and it's kind of hard to get a Buick piston to weigh 488
00:51 grams, but we did it.
00:54 It's a really nice little thing.
01:13 In this class, they don't make a Buick manifold that is the RPM air gap.
01:34 They just make a regular performer.
01:36 So we had our hands tied a little bit there, but we went after it with a grinder and tried
01:41 to make it the best we could.
01:43 It sounded funky when you fired it up.
01:48 Good deal, boy.
01:49 Yes, sir.
01:50 Thank you.
01:51 You're out.
01:52 Finding a 400 Buick block was like looking for the Hope Diamond.
01:54 Yeah, I was scouring Craigslist every week like a chubby kid on a Snickers bar trying
01:58 to find that thing, man.
01:59 You know, horsepower isn't exactly what we wanted, but we're happy that it survived.
02:03 - Cool.
