00:00 Hello, I'm Michael Crosland, business reporter with the Yorkshire Post, and we have some
00:03 sad news today from the Leeds-based vegan takeaway, Friends of Food, which has unfortunately
00:09 fallen into liquidation. The company first started experiencing issues during the COVID-19
00:15 pandemic and then unfortunately was unable to turn things around during the subsequent
00:20 cost of living crisis. The takeaway was previously shortlisted as Restaurant of the Year for
00:25 the North East by Uber Eats. The company appointed liquidators late last month and has now ceased
00:31 trading. A document posted to the company's house shows that the company earned just under
00:37 £100,000 when it stopped trading. The takeaway was first founded by a group of three friends
00:43 who went to Leeds University and decided to set up a takeaway after they finished studying.
00:49 A statement from the liquidator of the company, Clark Bell Practitioners, said that while
00:54 COVID had a considerable impact on the business, it was able to survive it, but then that cost
00:59 increases such as gas and electric unfortunately drove the firm to go into liquidation. That's
01:06 all we have on the business at the minute. I'm Michael Crosland, reporting for the Yorkshire
01:10 Post.
